Originally called Decoration Day, Memorial Day is a U.S. day of remembrance for those who have died in our nation's service. Too many of us, however, think of Memorial Day as just another holiday from work and school -- a day for picnics, baseball games and barbeques -- instead of a day for actively remembering our ancestors, family members, loved ones, neighbors and friends who have given the ultimate sacrifice.
I'm not saying you shouldn't enjoy a good barbecue with family and friends, but make sure to leave some time to remember the "memorial" in Memorial Day and honor our nation's fallen heroes:
I kinda think all those fallen heroes would say “thanks for the day of rememberance” but would add “go ahead and enjoy the ballgames,barbecue’s and day off cause those are some of the reasons we paid the ultimate price in the first place” !!!
Man, I think I observe Memorial Day everyday in some way or thought since 9-11.
I will be following a bunch O Leathernecks on motorcycles to Riverside National Cemetary, Then we head out to “BBQ and hoist a few” for our brothers who cannot or are no longer with us.

Man you totally nailed it. I for one am sick of these articles every Memorial Day chastizing Americans about cookouts, going camping, spending time with family and friends, and so on.
There's no doubt in my mind that almost everyone on Memorial Day thinks about those who died. I'm not saying we should ignore them, but there's no need to grieve the entire day either.
Remember, then celebrate.
Take your kids to your town’s ceremony or parade.
Applaud wildly and yell “Thank you” to the vets marching in the local parade.
Place a flag at some veterans grave, and say “Thank You” out loud.
Fly an American flag at your residence. Heck, do it everyday. You might start a trend. We are at war, right?
Celebrate with your family the freedoms that make America the bright city on the hill that it is.
Close by saying a prayer to Almighty God for allowing you to live here, and ask what He wants in return.

“…and so, here I am, on a Tuesday…looking out past the next few days toward the weekend, and Memorial Day…through the years, as each one of these holidays draws closer, and my awareness that our time on this planet is in and of itself truly finite, my appreciation of this particular holiday grows- I don’t begrudge the parades, the services, the speeches, the picnics, the evening fireworks… those things are fine…and I don’t disparage the real estate broker who puts those small flags on everyone’s lawn, or the big retail sales…everyone’s out to make a buck…
…but I’d like to think that my Memorial Day is about celebrating the journey of those millions who came before me, who served for a moment in time, honored us with their duty, and then stepped off the trail to join the ranks of the rest of us…and I’d like to think it’s about remembering those who gave of themselves, for us, the ultimate sacrifice, gone before they had the opportunity to stand and salute the band on main street…
…Memorial Day is for all of us…who we were, who we might have been were it not for those who fought for us…and who we are now because of them…
…Ft. Hood lost six more soldiers last week…keep them in your prayers....

Before we all start our Memorial Weekend,
(which is for the fallen hero’s, not a sale at Lowes.)
I want to publicly thank Meagan for the choice that she has made in her future life.
After she gets out of school this week,
she will be joining the Texas National Guard.
She will be shipped out to boot camp,
then to A.I.T school, (Advanced Individual Training)
Her desire is to become a RN and help those veterans needing help in the recovery from war injuries.
After this summer, she will come back to school for her senior year.
In a time when so many young people care only about themselves, it is an HONOR to know this young lady.
Gary and Jacki have raised an outstanding daughter.
It is those like her,
that give this old vet,
hope for this country.

This weekend take time to remember your fallen hero.
