Jimmy Carter: The Worst President In American History

In this exclusive 10-part series, IBD takes a hard look at Jimmy Carter’s administration and compares it to that of George W. Bush, which Carter has called the worst ever.

Installments will cover the economy, foreign policy, human rights, dealing with dictators, fighting Communism and the Democratic leadership in general during times of war.

Next installment: Wednesday, May 23

Part One

Look Who's Talking

Leadership: So Jimmy Carter calls the Bush administration "the worst in history." This from the man who wrecked the world's greatest economy and made a nuclear Iran and North Korea possible.

Part Two

'Malaise' Maestro

Leadership: When it comes to economic performance, there's no contest: Apart from the early years of the Depression, Jimmy Carter's brief tenure as president was the worst in the 20th century.

Part Three

Carter Planted Seeds Of Al-Qaida

Leadership: After being told over and over by President Jimmy Carter that America's ability to influence world events was "very limited," the Soviet Union believed him and invaded Afghanistan. And al-Qaida was born.

..I lived through Carter and Clinton--they are right on the bottom

Throw in James Buchanan while we're in the neighborhood.

And two figures who may not be rated as among the worst, but individuals I have grown to dislike the more I learn about them: Andrew Jackson and Woodrow Wilson...

How about LBJ? "Great Society"?

Yeah. For dirtbags and illegals.

20th C Worst ever: Carter, Wilson, and Johnson (LBJ).
Agree with your growing dislike of Jackson, I have been there with Wilson for years.

Too early to tell how Bush will fare historically; he is no Ronald Reagan - but he sure is hell no Jimmy Carter either.

..GWB will end up in the middle or lower middle, if the immigration crisis is ever resolved.

If it isn't he may be much lower--if there is a U.S.

The tragedy is he could have been great.

Re Jackson, his Indian policies were inexcusable. He was overrated as a person, soldier and president. He should NOT be on the $20 bill--he should be replaced by Ronald Wilson Reagan.

I simply can't stand Wilson because, like Carter, he suffered from terminal self-righteousness bordering on a god-complex. Plus he dissed T.R. at the beginning of WWI...

This series is awesome. I was too young to understand how incompetent Carter really was. I just remember the gas lines as a kid and wondering why we just didn’t go over to Iran and get the hostages from those backward people.

Thank God for Reagan.

I actually think Clinton’s eight years of destruction/ deceit/ treason will not be understood for years....if ever, as long as the DBM / MSM is in charge of the sheeple’s info stream.

..that is an excellent point Osage

Most people "think" they know the full extent of the damage Clinton did while in office.

It may be like getting a dose of Agent Orange--may take years to kill you...

Worst:

1. Buchanan. 620,000 military deaths in Civil War
2. FDR. 407 military deaths in WWII.
3. Woodrow Wilson. 117,000 military deaths in WWI
4. LBJ. 58,000 deaths in Vietnam
5. Truman, 38,000 deaths in Korea
6. Carter. Betrayed US ally and provided islamicist nutballs a safe haven with oil revenue.
7. Clinton Heck, you know.

Personally I think we don't really know the 1/2 of it.....

And it ticks me off to no end........

I blame many, many of our political "leaders" and blame the whole dad gum MSM/DBM....

I think there was another "mother of all" cover-up's...for the "good of the country"...in regards to the Rapist and his "service".

It's disgusting beyond understanding...and I know I'm right in my gut about this.

Thanks for posting these editorials.

Carter was the worst ever. Just married, I spent 15 months out of work, scraping for small jobs and fighting with the "good folks" at unemployment.

I intensely dislike this man and wish he'd just go away.

Though I do enjoy reading others who think the same way.

I’m with you on Bush and immigration. I understand the basic Democrat supporting amnesty in turn for the erosion of American culture and development of a political base, but I do not understand Bush’s thinking on immigration.

In whole agreement with your assessment of Jackson too - the treatment of the Indians is inexusable. Of course, it’s easy to make this sort of assessment 175 years after the fact, but I too would rather see Ronald Reagan instead of Jackson on the $20.

Wilson is the pre-eminent example of the self-righteous politician. Particularly disturbing about Wilson is his disregard of the Constitution in favor of a “modern” government that takes care of the needs of the people. Hello income tax and IRS, Federal Reserve System and the advent of nanny statism to American government and culture. How about foreign policy? Wilson’s arrogance precluded him from tempering the vindictiveness of the allies, and from gaining the support in the US Senate needed to get the Versailles treaty ratified. Wilson’s failure in this regard all but assured WWII would a greater world conflict and be more deadly than WWI. Wilson was the first modern Democrat - and any thinking person of our own time should impugn his so-called accomplishments.
