AC Milan 2-1 Liverpool

'Pippo Inzaghi struck twice as AC Milan gained revenge for their 2005 Champions League final defeat against Liverpool with victory in Athens.

Inzaghi scored a freak opener in first-half injury time, unwittingly deflecting Andrea Pirlo's free-kick past a wrong-footed Pepe Reina.

Steven Gerrard missed a glorious chance to equalise before Inzaghi slid home a second eight minutes from time.

Dirk Kuyt pulled one back with a header with a minute left, but time ran out.'

I made it to this point with the game on tape without knowing the score. I never thought FR would spoil it . . . I had a whole list of other websites that I wasn’t visiting. LOL

Trajan88, an AMERICAN of Italian heritage, will gladly raise a pint to AC... now if only I were in NYC today (live in the Lone Star State)... I'd add a large iteration of one of Lombardi's finest to the celebration feast:

Liverpool tried to make a game of it at the end, but they just didn't have it yesterday.

That said, shouldn't Liverpool's goal have been disallowed due to the goal scorer being offside? He was behind the last defender at the time of the last touch (header deflection) that redirected the ball to him...

Yes.

Cue the English media ignoring it and whining that the 1st goal hit Peppo on the hand, despite being a rocket shot that hit him side on and he couldnt get out the way: ie completely unintentional.

And the fact that the ref ‘ended the game 18 secs early’,despite Liverpool not having a hope in hell of getting a shot on goal in the 18 secs even if allowed...
