Indeed.

We are becoming a joke, and are about to reap the results.

“If I were a military commander, I’d always want the enemy thinking I’m a paper tiger. Easier eating, when the time comes to show my stripes.”

SUn Tzu.

Unfortunately our military leadership doesn’t seem to pay attention to the rest, so I think that’s not it and we’re probably on the wrong side of these:

2.5 - Thus, though we have heard of stupid haste in war, cleverness has never been seen associated with long delays.

2.6 - There is no instance of a country having benefited from prolonged warfare.

The feeling among many I know is that we (the US) are about to lose a lot of power and influence. Both conservative and liberals I have talked to have the same feeling that something is really wrong, but can’t identify it.

What would it take to turn Pyongyang into a smoldering pile of radioactive rubble?

One of us FReepers as President, apparently. I suggest reading the posts from AmericanInTokyo and expatguy.

And yet the Iranians (with their nuke program the CIA & IEAE claims is 3-8 years away) seem to be meeting quite regularly with the NK’s with their missiles that they keep demonstrating over the sea of Japan, coincidentally around US holidays and coincidentally around the time Iran is experiencing pressure.

Oh boy! My son is being deployed--in less than 72 hours--for a one year tour of duty in Korea. I am grateful he's not going to Iraq--but the news this morning is NOT GOOD!

So--would deeply appreciate your prayers--for my son, his family--and all who are being deployed.

“Last time I checked, N. Korea ain’t got enuff electric to come up with a decent drive-in, much less a thermonuclear device.”

According to the CIA in 1994, North Korea already had at least four atomic bombs, bigger then what was unleashed against Hiroshima or Nagasaki. They then master urianium enrichment by 2002 and last year we saw their first real nuclear test. They already have the missle delivery systems and what do you think this recent testing of missles over Japan is for? One day, a live nuke will be one one or many of them.

Of course, the real question is: Did they fire several short range missiles into the Sea of Japan or crash several long range missiles into the Sea of Japan?

Problem is, they were actually long-range missiles before they took off.

As it is with war, so it is with diplomacy. Stay on the offensive.

We lost the diplomatic offensive with the DPRK as soon as we agreed to anything before verifiably shutting them down.

What this administration should have said is, “you get NOTHING until X”, and then proceeded to squeeze.

Instead the DPRK provokes us and all its neighbors with impunity whenever it feels like it.
