Appeals court bars Cheney foes from West Point

WHITE PLAINS - The mere presence of Vice President Dick Cheney does not turn West Point into a public forum and is not an "open invitation" to protesters, a federal appeals court ruled on Friday.

Cheney is scheduled to deliver the commencement speech at the U.S. Military Academy today, and about 1,000 people had hoped to march onto the campus for an anti-war demonstration.

But the Army denied permission, a federal judge in White Plains agreed, and the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals refused on Friday to issue a preliminary injunction that would allow the march...The protesters' attorney, Stephen Bergstein, said the military gets too much respect.

Said Bergstein: "They wouldn't have had any problems with us. I really don't think anything bad would have happened if they'd done this."

I think the judge might have been more concerned about the possibility of a thousand moonbats getting their heads knocked in by frisky plebes as well.

Rumor has it that a large shipment of tar and feathers was in the ordnance supply chain for West Point. Now they can stand down.

Moonbats hate tar because they rail against the Black Caucus of their own party, and the feathers? Well the moonbats always flock together, so why not put the feathers to them?

It’s great to see the A.P. print some good news for a change.

Sorry, moonbats, but you do not have any right to an open forum for your hate on Military Bases. I wish it extended for outside the gate too. Make it a reasonable disatnce, like 10,000 miles ;-)

Damn liberals. They are such cowards. You wouldn't see them hall their ass to Iraq and protest against the terrorists. They have to go somewhere safe, in America. And it was made safe by the blood of patriots.

If I were there, and you were taking care of business, I’d stay out of it so I could testify that he started it, if need be.

If your a Vet and this guy said our military gets too much respect (meaning they should get no respect, then I guess I would or we would be obligated to give him a good old fashion ass whooping. Amen.

The protesters’ attorney, Stephen Bergstein, said the military gets too much respect.

No other institution in our society enjoys the deference that the military establishment enjoys,” he said.

This attorney should think long and hard about why that is so.

We went to a commencement at West Point a few years ago. Gore was the speaker. From the sampling of people seated around us there was not much love for the guy (quite the opposite). But the audience was polite.

Yeah, I think lawyers like Stephen are owed more respect. Particularly since he lacks any brains. I am sure I could supply him with some sort of assistance.

“No other institution in our society enjoys the deference that the military establishment enjoys,” he said. “There are things you can’t do in our society, and protesting at a military institution is one of them. It’s a shame because they invite Cheney and he can say whatever he wants.”

Uh. And your point is, Stephen? Wah! Waaah! I want respect.

Thought some of you might be interested in this piece, considering the GOE stance.

"The protesters' attorney, Stephen Bergstein, said the military gets too much respect."

TOO MUCH?? This from an attorney on the side of the PROTESTERS??? I believe respect is due, unless he would appreciate no one protecting his country, his home, his family and his back-end.

The three-judge panel disagreed, saying the protesters misunderstood how the First Amendment applies inside a military base.

Praise the Lord it IS different in a military base! It is bad enough we have to put up with the mentality on the streets, we certainly don't need it at a celebration on a base!

Said Bergstein: "They wouldn't have had any problems with us. I really don't think anything bad would have happened if they'd done this."

He thinks he can control them? The past has shown their behavior to be unpredictable and far from peace-loving, though ironically that is supposed to be their stance. Then there is the psychological damage....how would he guage that?

PTL the court took the appropriate stance!

Thanks for the PING, Race!
