LOUVAIN-LA-NEUVE – One in three people in Belgium is bothered by women wearing headscarves in public places. Just over half even would prefer that they be banned in certain places. Intolerance and racism are at the root of these negative views on headscarves.

This was the conclusion drawn by the religious faculty's centre for psychology at the Catholic University of Louvain-La-Neuve after two studies into the Belgians' attitude towards headscarves.

Some 69 percent of those asked see the headscarf as a sign of oppression and 53.3 percent thinks wearing one goes entirely against modern western values. Some 44.6 percent are disturbed by someone wearing a headscarf at school.

The researchers said that this study is evidence that society still has a long way to go in the fight against racism and intolerance.

Of course racism and intolerance are the culprits. What else could it possibly be?

“Intolerance and racism are at the root of these negative views on headscarves.”

Sure are. The headscarves represent an intolerant, oppressive, racist, and supremacist ideology. Who wants to look at that all day long?

I have mixed feelings about this b/c as a Christian woman, if I feel the need to cover, I will. Banning Muslim head scarves but not Christian prayer coverings would mean the law is choosing one religion over another. If I were a legislator I’d have to say prayer coverings that leave the face visible would be OK but anything like a mask would not. And if the veil or mask wearers can’t conduct their daily business with a veil or burqa — if they can’t go in a bank or get a driver’s license — they’ll just have to stay home. But, that would mean more Muslim women and girls in brutal isolation. LEt’s go for the “easy button.” It would be SO much easier if they’d just all become Christian.

One way to rid the planet of I-slam would be to provide every woman of marriageable age in the slammite world with a 9mm semiauto pistol and 100 rounds of ammo for it. Total cost would be under 100 billion and it would be money well spent.

I see women driving with the head bandages, and I know they don’t have any peripheral vision. As pedestrians they are a danger to themselves.

Going after women wearing headscarves is going for the easy target ... women. Making women take off a piece of clothing is the same as making women put on a piece of clothing. It’s control/subjugation of women either way.

Cowards.

Go after the REAL culprits.
