America
(or America, We Love Your Heroes)
Sung by Kelly God
From the DVD Andre Rieu Live in Dublin
Ocean bird, I wish to tell you
A story from a long time ago.
Oh ocean bird, I wish to tell you
That sad old song you have to know.
America, so many heroes
They left their homes and crossed the waves.
America, you sent your young boys
Oh ocean bird, how must I tell you
That sad old song? They came to save us!
America, so many heroes
They lost their lives and filled the graves.
America, we love your heroes
America, we are your friends
America, well always love you
And keep you in our hearts and hands
America, so many heroes
They left their homes and crossed the waves.
America, you die of grief now
Oh ocean bird, how must I tell you
That sad new song? They are in pain now!
America, we share your sorrow,
America, let hope remain...

My father is an Andre Rieu fan and while watching Andre Rieu Live in Dublin with him I came across this special piece. Andre Rieu wrote it especially for America. The music is haunting, the words beautiful and the visuals are spot on heart wrenching. All I can say, Europe says Thank You.

We watch Andre Rieu’s Christmas specials every year, and usually end up dancing around the living room. Bravo to the Konzertmeister for this heartfelt tribute.

Yes many in Europe are eternally grateful for the American intervention in WW2.
If ever you get the chance go to Luxembourg you will be treated like kings. They remember the battle of the Bulge and how the American forces gave everything for them. This Brit like many you don't get to to hear about, knows our history and remember with deep respect your hero's today.

It’s so wonderful to know that we’re not hated by the whole world, though the media would like us to think otherwise.
That was beautiful, thanks for sharing! :)

Nice find for Memorial Day.
I'm hoping Sarko will have a few moments on Monday to visit one of our French cemeteries. It would be a very nice gesture to remember fallen American soldiers buried there who died to repel the Nazi menace from France and all of Europe.

Thanks George.
Star, I don't know if you've seen this before but it's worth seeing again if you have.

Er, uh, that would be "concertmeester". He's Dutch, not German.
Before she passed on, my mother was an avid Rieu fan from Chicago, having been transplanted from the Netherlands. (As an heir, and have the audio and video recordings to prove it.)
Another friend of mine--also a concertmaster--finds Andre' a highly overly commercialized, mediocre violinist, who would not be at all above schmoozing to his potential audience in anticipation of increased popularity.
