Half the channels I get on DIRECT are in Spanish so I never watch them.

Direct TV has about 9 stations in HD right now, no word but I'm assumung you will have to get a new HD MPEG4 HD receiver to receive the new channels.
Right now I have the TIVO DirectTV HD box that apparently will not be compatible with the new channels, the DVR that DirectTV gives you without TIVO really sucks.

Does this mean current Direct tv HD boxes will have to be changed? I haven’t been to happy with Direct’s 7 channel lineup.

I live in California and subscribe to the Extra Innings package to see the Sox. Don & Remy always say they're in HD, but we don't get the full screen. augh! For what I pay for the EI subscription, it should be in HD. </whine>

Do you have the sidecar?
(now that’s real HD)

There’s nothing like watching J.D. Drew draw a walk in HD!

You mean along with the thousands of same overs they do while we are paying through the nose so they can go cheap.

If you have a newer HD box that receives the MPEG4 signal that DirectTV will use to provide the new HD channels you will be fine.
If you have a DirectTv TIVO box like the Hughes HR10-250 that came out in 2004 you will need to replace it to get the expanded lineup.

I’m about to buy my first HD panel. Should I stay with Dish or switch to Direct? I don’t subscribe to premium channels and I don’t care about NFL Sunday Ticket. I’ve been pretty satisfied with Dish Network for about 10 years.
Thanks.

Until I can be assured that there is a DVD player/recorder on the market that will play the over 1000 DVD’s (non-HD) I have in my movie library, I’m not ready to jump into HD. My biggest fear is my library will be obsolete.

Comcast is losing me as a customer at some point this summer. While I have to pay for bulk cable in my development, they won’t pick up the Big Ten Network and I won’t risk missing a PSU game.
I’ll have to put up a dish and pay DTV + Comcast for my internet, but I see no other alternative.

HD or no HD today’s TV with all of the channel choices suck. We have Direct TV with a premium package and it seems like night after night with all the channels to select from we find nothing on worth watching. We HATE reality TV, We find American Idol and the rest of the so called talent shows an over-hyped bore, and the rest of the channels keep playing the same stuff over and over again
I am certain that back in the 1960’s and 70’s with only six channels we had so much more to watch. I don’t remember flipping through the channels and finding nothing to watch. And each night had more variety than today.
Then do I have to remind you of Saturday Morning Cartoons? Turning on TV Saturday morning was an event to look forward to. Todays Saturday cartoons look like Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesday, same crap.

Theres nothing like watching J.D. Drew draw a walk in HD! J.D. is still playing this year and hasn't been injured yet?

Call DISH (*E) and see what you deals you can get from them. I have *E and am happy with the service.
As I told a friend via freepmail, I will check out Direct TV and see who has the better service after my commitment is up next year.

Perhaps he’s just saving up his DL time and will take the whole summer off.

You better start. How are you going to function in America when the only language spoken is Spanish? /half sarc.

I'm with you. I have cable with all the pay channels except Cinemax. I haven't watched probably more than 3 movies on those pay channels in the last 2 months. I watch more movies on AMC, FMC, and Hallmark more than the pay channels. (Time to disconnect those has come)
Night after night after night my wife and I look for something to watch on TV, only to pop in an old DVD to have something entertaining to watch. As for me, I could care less about HD. Junk is junk.

CNBC in HD? I cant stand Chissy in standard definition. Chrissy is mostly on MSNBC, CNBC means Maria Bartiroma in HD.
Mmmmmmmm
