I’m happy to hear him coming out so strongly on other issues beside illegal immigration. Obviously it’s extremely important but the media isn’t interested in talking to him about other issues. It’s too bad because he is a good firm conservative.

Same with Duncan Hunter.

If Tancredo's buddy King gets behind him in Iowa, the straw poll in August could change the entire race. King pulls a lot of sway in Iowa. So far, King has not endorsed a candidate, but he and Tancredo are good friends. Tancredo's also got Bill Salier working for him in Iowa.

On Gun Control:
”I fully and completely support the right of the people to keep and bear arms. The failure of the ACLU to defend this right, and of federal courts to make the second amendment binding on the states, as they have made the first amendment and most others, testifies to their intellectual hypocrisy.”
-Tom Tancredo

Has there ever been a "straw poll" ever, anywhere, that mattered jack diddly squat?

I like Tancredo, but he’s not my 1st choice for prez. I am happy that today positive threads about him can be posted without a bunch of folks showing up to bombast him and anyone who spoke highly of him.

Well...even if TT and Hunter don’t get the nod, let’s hope they get a seat at the table

Not surprising. Tom’s team is headed up by former U.S. Senate candidate Bill Salier, who has one of the best conservative networks in the state.

The Iowa straw poll historically has had significance. IIRC, it was the Iowa straw poll in ‘99 that made Alexander decide to drop out of the race. A low finish in the Iowa straw poll generally dries up fundraising for a candidate and moves them out of the race.

So yes, I think a “straw poll” does matter jack diddly squat. For a lower-tier candidate, it could kill a campaign or boost it to the upper tier.

Front runners most likely to win..... Not! If conservatives are true to their original description, none of the front runners, or front ‘not yet runners’, are likely to win. We want a man with a cool head, a steady hand’ a Godly man to lead God’s own country, with fire in his belly to win over the unsidious evil which is making outrageous headway against us today - Duncan Hunter. He belongs to no multi-national company. He is his own man. So please support him at http://www.gohunter08. Thank you.

When you think about it, a Tancredo/Hunter ticket (or vice versa) would be a pure Conservative’s dream ticket.

Unfortunately, it’s probably not going to happen.

However, I could see a Thompson/Tancredo or Thompson/Hunter ticket.

Hyping the importance of straw polls seems to be the last refuge of hopelessly doomed candidates.

Look at all the Catherine Harris threads...

As my tagline shows, I would LOVE a Tancredo-Paul or Paul-Tancredo ticket.

I might be interested in Tancredo if Thompson does not get in. That being said, it looks like Fred is going to take the plunge.

I'm completely uninterested in your opinion on this issue. You're wrong.

It is a fact that the Iowa straw poll can help or hurt a campaign. It is part of the process.

If your goal is to try to bash the best conservative we have in the race, then pick apart his platform. Or, better yet, tell us all that Tancredo is a one-issue candidate.

Spend more time on Tancredo threads. I assure you, they're still posting.

“During most political campaigns, attentions naturally drift to the front-runners.”
“As a result, media types and politicians put more focus on them...”

Right off the bat they got it wrong. Media focuses anywhere they think they can weaken the conservative agenda. Strong Conservatives likely to be able to fire up the conservative base are ignored or marginalized as much as possible by the media, who focus only on those they themselves want in the competition so that it boils down to: RINOs vs. popular leftists.
