A noble effort but, I predict, completely pointless. Iran will use this as an opportunity to lead the world’s most powerful country around by the nose. Nothing of note will be accomplished.

The press thinks that simply sitting down to talk is somehow a victory in and of itself.

The fact that the two sides are talking publicly since breaking off relations after Iran's 1979 revolution, is a historic achievement in itself, even if the two sides share little common ground.

"There has been a theme of humiliation in the press," said Michael Rubin, an Iran expert at the American Enterprise Institute. "The talks are an indication of how much the U.S. has lost" in Iraq.

Nothing good will come from this.

Actually, I'm one of those annoying people who always believe that we'll never take Iran on, because the politics at home prevent it.

But...the fact that we're talking to them makes me wonder if Bush has even more cojones than I thought...and politics be damned with him.

Why?

Because you can only hit Iran if you've talked to them directly first.

Now that we are talking, all of this tension will be alleviated, and peace and goodwill will blossom.

At this first illustrious ‘meeting’, I say place the entire Iranian delegation under arrest, blindfold the SOBs, march them under guard to an ‘undisclosed location’, force them to listen to ‘God Bless America’ 20 hours a day, make them smell the delicious aroma of Virginia-baked ham and bacon sizzling in a pan, and limit their TV viewing to ‘the very best sermons of Reverend Jerry Falwell’.

Tell Tehran we’ll think about perhaps ‘negotiating’ the release of our esteemed guests after say,,,,444 days?

How’s that for starters? :)

I recommend opening with something subtle like, “Our forthcoming air strikes will vaporize your nuclear capabilities.”
