“I dont think God would punish him . My vision of God is all loving and all forgiving.I dont know but he seemed like a really nice guy who was gifted and brought laughter to many RIP”
Yes, He is all loving and all forgiving. And Reilly did seem like a nice guy.
But I don’t make the rules, I just observe them. The nicest person in the world is a sinner and undeserving of Heaven on his own power. I don’t say this to be unkind. Only God has the power to save us from our sins and He makes the rules. I do pray that Charles Nelson Reilly is with Him now!
My dad, a small town country doctor, used to say that pneumonia was an old man's best friend.
I wasn’t speculating on his soul. Only God knows our hearts. I just don’t want people mislead into thinking they have anything to do with their salvation other than what Jesus said and did for us. My comments were more for getting those here to think and pray about their own lives and everlasting lives. I realize that it might offend some but it might help others.
I am not a biblical scholar by any means, just an average guy. I only posted this out of love for my fellow freepers.
Remember folks, he did lots of voice overs for cartoons.
Thankfully, my love for Jesus and his for me means that no time is too late for salvation.
Absolutely right! I always remember the thief on the cross next to Jesus.
With that, I am sorry for interrupting a thread honoring Charles Nelson Reilly! I did enjoy his works and he will be missed!
I watched a little Match Game before CNR showed up, but I remember him best from Laugh In and Hollywood Squares. Funny man.
“How do you manage to inject Alec Baldwin into a generally (and properly) very nice, very favorable, appreciative, discussion of Charles Nelson Reilly?”
I thought the SNL bit was funny when I saw it a few years (I think) ago. I didn’t see it as a slam on Reilly, instead at the time it made me remember how funny he was when I would see him on TV when I was growing up. Also, it reminded me how funny Alec Baldwin can be on SNL (though I think he’s an arse politically).
Sorry you took offense, but the offense was in your imagination since I did not intend it.
Good memories. I loved him in “The Ghost and Mrs. Muir”.
May he rest in peace.
He was the loony real-estate agent in the television series of “The Ghost And Mrs. Muir.” A sad loss...
A year or so ago I rented H.R. Puffinstuff,...my 8 and 5 year old were definitely weirded out by the utter chaos of the program. I agree those Croft programs were created inside of a bong.
My kids did get a flavor for the program and eventually began trying to break down the characters and utter lack of plot development. Of course they love the H.R. Puffinstuff theme song, and while we only had the DVD for a short run, they still burst into the song from time to time and I expect that it will be stuck in their head forever, as it is in mine, and as it probably is stuck in your head at this very moment.
Shame on my suspicious mind!
sigh...either way, a funny, seemingly-kind man has died.
The ongoing relationship between him and Brett Somers on Match Game was classic! A very funny guy. RIP.
He revisited that character in an episode of Millennium, "Jose Chung's Doomsday Defense." It was a thinly-veiled attack on Scientology, with Chung as an old friend of the Hubbard-like character. "When I told him he could be anything he wanted to be, I didn't know what he wanted to be was a deity!"
CNR was a funny man and a warm human being. RIP. Ellen De Generate and Rosie O’Dumbbell should take notes.
The premise of Lidsville was this: A kid who is fascinated by a magician at a theme park stays behind to find out what's in the magic hat. When he holds the hat, it grows big enough for him to fall inside. When he does, he lands in Lidsville, inhabited by giant hats with faces, arms and legs, dominated by a tyrannical green-skinned guy who flies around in a flattened top hat as if it was a flying saucer. A river runs through Lidsville, but not with water -- shampoo.

This must have been one of Sid Croft’s shows?
The offense was to Mr. Reilly, not to me. I just can't put the two into the same thought sequence (and obviously don't remember the SNL episode). It's hard for me to think of Baldwin as funny since he is always searching for his cue cards on SNL, but I'm glad you got a chuckle from the skit.
Reilly was humorous on his own.
No offense taken on my part.
