Enforcement of existing regulations and US tax laws would solve the problem of illegal immigration (because there would be no jobs). Aliens crossing the border are committing crime after crime, and our legislators who have sworn to uphold the law do nothing about it.......except castigate the citizenry who dare to point this out:

Aliens who buy fake identification and use forged documents are guilty of fraud (and likely identity theft).

Employers who knowingly accept faked documents violate Homeland Security regulations.

Employers and the people they pay "off the books" are guilty of tax evasion.

Employers who violate these regulations are committing numerous felonies under existing laws; they are gaining an unlawful advantage over their competitors and, more egregiously, they are driving down wages for born-Americans with families to feed.

Senators don't care - they serve six years. But it faces tough sledding in the House and the Democrats will take it up only if the GOP votes for it. I can only imagine what House GOP members are hearing from their constituents. And all of them are for election next year.

The solution that the majority could live with is simple:

1) Secure the borders. Do not proceed to step 2 until this is accomplished.

2) Create a counterfit-proof ID for citizens. Do not proceed to step 3 until this is accomplished.

3) Deal with illegals.

If our government is not interested in enforcing existing laws, is there any further need for the U.S. Senate? They will only write more laws that nobody will be interested in enforcing, so they are only wasting time and money writing new laws.

Yes, it is the ILLEGAL immigration that is so offensive.

However... if everyone becomes instantly legal (Z visas), and then we have an additional 400,000 legally entering (the new “temporary” workers), we will have to face up to the problem of too many LEGAL immigrants.

Too many immigrants - whether they are legal or not - hurt American workers by taking their jobs and depressing their wages.

Since we can be relied upon to take the oppressed from other countries we enable the dictators to continue their oppression. It is time we expected these people to make changes in their own governments.

Pro Amnesty Senators are hoping for a Clinton nomination in 2008. They know we hate her so much, we will forget about this little immigration thing and continue to vote for them

Karl Rove will probably add a few gay marriage bills to key states to seal this deal.

Our Founding Fathers created a Congress composed of a House of Representatives, elected by the “we the People”, and a Senate, populated by appointment of each of the several States Legislations. This very wise action has been changed by amending the Constitution to allow the senate to be seated by popular vote. This amendment has created a massive mess in our Capitol.

We must revert to the original method of the way we select members of the Senate. This action would reduce the strong impact that campaign finance currently holds upon the decisions made by each individual senator. The senator of a given State could be recalled by the State he/she represents. Special Interest lobbyist would then have several thousand individuals to bribe in the state legislations instead of only 100 greedy individuals in Washington D.C.

Here is the Novak column the letters are about:

novak column

Novak claims that opponents of the bill would have been against his immigrant grandfather, yada, yada, yada.

"In reading part of Dillingham's report into the Senate record, Graham declared that these immigrants who were "ruining America" fathered the "greatest generation." That immigrant wave included my grandfather, a Russian Imperial army veteran working on the John Deere tractor assembly line in Moline, Ill., as an unskilled, undocumented alien who could not speak English. Refuting Dillingham, he was an American patriot proud of a son who fought with the U.S. infantry through Africa and Italy in World War II."
