I agree. Presented with two kids, one having lower scores but doing the best with the opportunities available to him and hte other having had greater opportunities but comparatively less effort, I'd probably pick the first kid. "He who is faithful with little, to him much shall be given."

Clearly, social engineering is in vogue at colleges today - but not all social engineering is bad. It's not like the kid got points just because he was a minority.
