Un-Memorial Day in Pasadena - No Elected Officials Present

There were forty-four (44) names read at the Memorial Day service this morning in Pasadena's Memorial Park, all San Gabriel Valley casualties from Afghanistan and Iraq.
There was no notice in the Pasadena Star-News this morning.
No elected officials were present.
Was an invitation extended that was turned down?
Yes, anyone know the real story here?
I also check the online version of the Pasadena Star News. No notice. Do public officials need to be invited to merely attend, not participate in, a veterans memorial event? Note: Pasadena is an anti-war city with its City Council passing an anti-war referendum.
Why would anyone in their right mind invite anti-war politicians to a Memorial Day event?
