Iran will allow al-Jazeera to resume its presence in the Islamic Republic, now that representatives of the network have reportedly apologized for broadcasting an "insult" against Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani and "made some changes at managerial level."
Iran suspended al-Jazeera's activities in response to a May 6 episode of "Without Borders," which broadcast an interview with Sheikh Jawad al-Khalsi, a Shiite cleric with strong ties with the Sunni Association of Muslim Scholars, who was sharply critical of Sistani and other Shi'ite leaders' relationships with the Americans.
Director of Foreign Media Department at Iran's Ministry of Culture, Mohsen Moqaddas Zadeh, announced Monday, "The channel is allowed to resume both its Arabic and English services in Tehran after it officially apologized to Iran and made some changes at managerial level," he was quoted by Mehr news agency as saying.
The Iranian official expressed hope that the channel would change its policies to further strengthen Islamic unity and avert attempts to undermine solidarity among Muslims.
So will Al Jazerra do what C.N.N. did in Iraq and only tell stories the Govt. sees fit to stay in business there?
The News business today is full of whores.
