In over 25 years of teaching, I have had one student who was truely dyslexic. There are a lot more who have used it as an excuse for not trying.

I feel truly sorry for those who really suffer from it. It is a shame that it has become the excuse du'jour for those who don't want to do some things.

Many universities give students who claim to have dyslexia time-and-a-half or double time on their exams. Some demand open book exams.

The people that truly have it usually don't wish to voluntarily discuss it openly. I looked at Albert Einstein as one of my heroes who credited his dyslexia for using more of his brain to process information visually.

As an adult if I discover a child who needs help I am eager to give them the same tools I discovered to get through life. Its very easy to spot lazy people who are faking.

Its also very embarrassing to face the humiliation of intolerant people.
