Undocumented workers found at traffic stop
A Pittsburgh police officer on a safety enforcement patrol yesterday morning found an improperly hooked-up trailer and six undocumented workers.
Officer Tom Jacques was near the Parkway West around 7 a.m. when he heard a chain dragging from a pickup truck pulling a trailer with a spool of electrical conduit. He pulled over the truck at the Route 51 exit of the inbound Parkway West near the Fort Pitt Tunnel and discovered the hitch was improperly secured.
"That's the kind of thing that happens. Vehicles break away and you have a thousand-pound missile coming down the highway," Officer Jacques said. "This is exactly what happened with the chipper accident."
The officer was referring to the April 13, 2006, accident on Route 8 in which Spencer Morrison of Cranberry and two of his triplet children were killed when a wood chipper broke away from inadequate moorings and struck their minivan.
Bradley Demetras pleaded guilty to causing the accident by not securely fastening the trailer that broke away and last week was sentenced to nine to 18 months in jail.
"This is what we're seeing, even after the media blitz," said Officer Jacques, who is assigned to the Police Bureau's commercial vehicle enforcement squad. "This is what we're seeing daily."
After pulling over the truck, Officer Jacques and his partner found the trailer's lights were not hooked up, the truck had an illegal license plate, the hitch was not secure and the driver of the pickup did not have a valid license.
The truck and trailer were impounded and citations will be filed.
While the truck, with five occupants, was pulled over, a second vehicle arrived with three more men inside.

I just heard this on the local news this morning. I wonder if ICE will actually send the illegals back this time, or just let them go, as usual?
>>Undocumented workers found at traffic stop<<
ILLEGAL ILLEGAL ILLEGAL...in order to stop this madness, we must all be clear.
I just don’t know what to say anymore. I find myself shaking my head, speechless, knowing there will be more and more of this sort of thing.
Verizon had nothing to do with this. Verizon’s contractor is responsible for the help that he hires. Obviously the contractor was doing it the cheapest way. Don’t claim “Verizon should have known” because if the contractor hides illegals from the authorities, why would he admit to Verizon he’s using illegals?
More:
Six of the eight told police they were in the country illegally. They said they were subcontractors for Verizon, installing cables in the ground.
The owner of the second truck said the work crew had come from El Salvador and Honduras.

Just great: A bunch of Illegals in an unsafe, unlicensed vehicle pulling an dangerously hitched trailer. But...but Verizon gets it’s cheap, subdized labor. Thank you W.
This is a routine scene on I-35 here in Texas. You can witness all manner of questionable towing devices attached to old cars and trucks driven by Mexicans heading south and will usually see some broken down. I've seen them towing multiple vehicles at once with a single vehicle (panel van or light truck). Of course, the Trans Texas Highway will put a stop to this practice. /s/
OK...maybe it’s the contractor using the cheap, subdized labor not Verizon. Same difference.
Bah. If the subcontractor had been transporting drugs on Verizon’s dime, the Feds wouldn’t hesitate to go up the food chain to nail the big fish.
“Undocumented” sounds like they forgot to put their documents in the glove compartment—that they are not illegal, but that there is just a paperwork error.
There is no excuse for this:
That is just ASKING to fall off the truck. The contractor should have his/her business and contractor license pulled!
How about: "Unwashed criminals found at traffic stop".
Can we get any more PC!? "Misguided visitors", "Confused guests", "Forgetful friends".
I am so glad Glenn Beck taught me how to wrap my head in duct tape so it wouldn't explode.
If this had been Indianapolis..the cop would have had to put his hands over his ears and not listen to anything after the words illegal They would have all walked away free!.
You see Bart Peterson, mayor of Indy, has decreed you can't ask citizenship you can't question Id's..ya just let them go about their business and arrest citizens.
After all citizens pay their fines.
We just spent several thousand dollars on a towing package. Shoulda just gone down to Staples and bought a crate of duct tape.
Simple answer, hell no, they are probably trying to get their truck and trailer back. If ice wants to catch illegals pulling junk they could do it about any day on I81 in Virginia. They are always hauling those Yankee rust buckets, down interstate 81.
Bart Peterson has done in 8 years what the previous 4 mayors have built - Peterson has successfully ruined Indianapolis.
Now we have arsonists roaming around the city, while moonbat Councilwoman Angela Mansfield is going around trying to ban firearms.
