FORT COLLINS, Colo., May. 31, 2007 (AP) With the 2007 Atlantic hurricane season just a few hours away, researcher William Gray released his newest forecast Thursday still showing an expection for 17 major storms and nine hurricanes, five of them intense.
Gray, based at Colorado State University, described it as a very active season. He said there was a 74 percent chance of a major hurricane making landfall on the U.S. coast.
The forecast was largely unchanged from his team's forecast released in early April.

Wow, almost as bad as last year. /s
Oh good, I’ll be sure to put them on my calendar. ;-)
YAWN........yeah, just like last year.......I predict it will be a “normal” year...........
Even a blind squirrel finds an acorn once in a while.
There is no Vegas Line on this. So it means nothing.
So far the score is 17 major announcements, nine FR threads, five of them intense--storms zero.
Their prediction was correct last year... after they revised it 3 times.
The intent is that they may be right some year, then when they have such a season after several decades of the same prediction, they can say I told you so.
I can’t believe they have the stupidity to actually predict numbers.
I’m near Lake Erie. You should hear the weather people whine and cry about how hard it is to predict weather around water. They have a difficult time forecasting 3 days out!
I guess it’s a no lose predicting a trend. If you are wrong, most will forget. If you are right, you can point to that next time you guess.
Didn’t we see the same story last year?
How’d that prediction turn out?
I say there is a 90% chance of a major disappointment for researcher William Gray when his predictions are wrong - again.
Heh, heh.
Rove you magnificent...Yatta, yatta, yatta
With the media hype-machine ready to roll in just a few hours...

I'm quick to give him and Landsea plenty of slack in light of their service to debunking the Gospel of Algore.
There will be at least one major hurricane that hits the Gulf Coast of Texas this year, per the “Spurs Rule”. Every year that the Spurs have won the championship, Texas has been hit with a hurricane. Go Spurs Go!
Yeah, we were forcasted to have rain every day this week. We have not seen a drop of moisture yet. Weather forecasters my foot!
Dear Bill Gray:
I’m in the process of making summer vacation plans. We’ll definitely be spending time in the south. Maybe even Orlando, if the budget permits. Can I please get some specific dates of hurricanes so I can plan accordingly. Afterall, non-refundable tickets are much cheaper. Thanks in advance.
PS: Where will gas prices be in July, August, etc. ?
