The back door for terrorists
International Herald Tribune ^ | June 1, 2007 | Richard A. Clarke

Amid all of the xenophobia and nativism surrounding the immigration debate, there is a real security concern. In the language of the bureaucracy, the problem is referred to as the "OTMs," or Other Than Mexicans.

Thousands of non-Mexicans are caught crossing the United States border every year. They cannot be sent back to Mexico, but must be deported to their home country. Until recently, most were given a deportation hearing date and then simply released. Not surprisingly, few showed up for their scheduled appearances. Beginning last year, however, most who are caught are put into detention. They are then put through a procedure called expedited removal, under which many are flown back home within a few weeks.

Many of these non-Mexicans come from Iraq, Pakistan, Yemen, the Palestinian territories and other areas of concern to counterterrorism officials. What we don't know is how many others are evading the Border Patrol every year and what happens to them when they leave the border area. It's not too hard to imagine that these illegal immigrants, who have clearly spent a lot of money getting to Mexico and then into the United States, are able to buy themselves an identity and corroborating papers once in an American city. ......................

The Real ID Act of 2005, which among other things established standards for state-issued driver's licenses and non-driver's identification cards, has now been put off until at least 2009. ..........................

This immigration bill promises control over who is here and why, BU##S%$T! we are in for big trouble. This illegal gateway with a whopping 200 mile fence and 6000 national guard instead of a 700 mile fence and 18,000 ARMED national guard is going to seal the fate of all parties involved who voted for it.The only problem is the American people will be paying for it in money and blood! THANK YOU TRAITORS!

That’s one of the reasons I never gave 2 craps about Bush’s WOT. Alert color this, alert color that, shakin’ down Grandma at the airport...all the while REFUSING to secure our borders.

It is more infuriating that the traitors in DC are constantly reminding us that we are at war. Well, when a country is at war, the borders are secured/closed automatically to prevent any enemy infiltration. What kind of serious war are we in, if illegal aliens are demonstrating on our street by the thousands? It is hard to understand the hypocrites in DC.

>>Amid all of the xenophobia and nativism...<<

He didn’t even bother to say something like, “Some have charged that xenophobia and nativism are principal reasons for the opposition to ....” Just a tad biased.

Agreed. I’ve ranted about this for years. I truly believe that President Bush is not bright enough to understand such a simple concept. Then again, maybe it is I who is the friggin moron.

Maybe while you have been ranting like a broken record you have paid no attentuion to the work they have done and surely turn a deaf ear to the requests they make for more tools. Obviously, many have no concept of what it takes to solve a big problem.

It’s not a big problem all you have to do is militarize the borders and enforce existing laws.

There was a very interesting article recently about Mexican cooperation in apprehending the OTMs.

It's not a big problem. There are no big problems. It is the willingness to know, understnad, face facts, develop a solution and execute the solution.

Ummm. A bill was passed and signed to build a 700 mile wall along part of our Southern Border. Only two miles have been built. Why is that? Is it difficult to build a wall? The largest building in the world was built in 18 months in a swamp in 1942... The Pentagon.

American Border Patrol Agents are being prosecuted and put in jail for doing their jobs.

Democrats and Republicans and President Bush call for amnesty.

Amnesty for criminal lawbreakers is the same as condoning and encouraging future illegal lawbreaking immigrants into this country. These people will change the entire dynamic of what is America. The American Heritage foundation performed a study and concluded that illegal immigrants will cost the American taxpayer $2.5 trillion dollars over the next five years.

You might want to wake up and face reality. These people will be coming to your neighborhood.

Take a walk through parts of Los Angeles where there are thousands of illegal immigrant gang members killing, robbing and raping.

The 19 people who caused 9-11 were on expired visas. Three people who tried to kill American soldiers in Ft. Dix, NJ were illegals. Is this is what you want?

If you want to live among terrorists, move to Bahgdad. I don't, and I'm not a Pollyanna. Adults face reality.

You can invite this guy to dinner in about five years.

You wrote this from a mental ward, right. First you say there is no big problem. Then you challenge me to wake up. You follow that with illustrations from your favorite comic book. You need a shrink, quick!
