RICHMOND, Va. -- The state Republican Party, struggling to match the Virginia Democrats' fiscal prowess, is banking on the party's newest star presidential prospect to power its major annual fundraising gala Saturday.

Film and television star and former Sen. Fred Thompson drastically increased the media interest, if not the financial yield, of the spring gala that is the state GOP's major yearly event.

On Friday, the star of NBC's popular "Law & Order" drama series established an exploratory campaign committee that allows him to gauge support and raise money for a White House run.

"Fred’s against the immigration bill."

The only person who will get my vote is the one who implements an Illegal Immigrant Deportation Bill.
Any other action is agreeing to the destruction of the USA.
And...any other vote after the Immigration Bill is passed wouldn't matter.

Well, I agree with the sentiment, but am a little confused as to the logistics of voting for someone who "implements" a deportation bill if the immigration bill is passed now and the election is next year???

I kind of like the term illegal alien REPATRIATION bill. It has a kinder, more gentler, feel good sound that maybe the liberals can sign on to.

Make that displaced worker instead of illegal alien. The libs would never go for that.

Every politician presently in office is responsible for the immigrant situation as it is today...no vote from me even if they vote against the bill and it still passes.

I'm ready for a REVOLUTION. I'm so pissed I could spit nails.

I feel betrayed by the GOP and will only vote for a 3rd party candidate in 2008.

It's time to kick all our ROYAL politicians out of office. Burn Washington, DC to the ground!!

With this Immigration Bill the USA is toast anyway. It won't matter who is in office, the USA is doomed. I've played that game with the GOP before...I won't be betrayed again, period!!

Well, enjoy your November 2008 Tuesday off, then. Of course, when Hillary wins you'll blame somebody else.

If you think Fred won’t sweep Tennessee, you’re delusional.

I don’t give a flying fig about that award.

It could get competitive when people find out that the Statesman of the year is on the ballot. :)

With Tennessee scheduled for super Tuesday the outcome will depend a lot on how the early states vote I suppose.
