ARTICLE SNIPPET: “St. Petersburg, Fla., officials made good on their plan to limit free speech at the city’s homosexual festival this weekend by arresting five Christians for carrying signs “wider than their torsos” outside the officially designated protest area.

Pastor Billy Ball, Assistant Pastor Doug Pitts, Frankie Primavera and Josh Pettigrew, all of Faith Baptist Church in Primrose, Ga., were arrested today after leaving the area set aside by city officials for protest activities. Bill Holt, of Lighthouse Baptist Church in Jefferson, Ga., was also taken into custody.

According to Lighthouse Pastor Kevin Whitman, the five men were told by police their signs were not allowed outside the protest area because they were wider than their torsos. When the men refused to put them away, they were arrested for violating a controversial city ordinance that governs permitted events.

“We had police officers tell us bigger people could carry bigger signs than smaller people – it all depended on how big your torso was,” said Whitman, who, with several others, returned to the officially designated protest area rather than face arrest.

“Our signs were just standard foam-poster board,” he said. “Nothing big – maybe six inches wider than our torsos. If we had just rotated them, the police would have been OK with them. But then, you couldn’t read the message.””

Blair launches stinging attack on ‘absurd’ British Islamists

Tony Blair has launched a powerful attack on ‘absurd’ British Islamists who have nurtured a false ‘sense of grievance’ that they are being oppressed by Britain and the United States.

In his most outspoken remarks on Islamists, the former Prime Minister warns that Britain is in danger of losing the battle against terrorists unless mainstream society confronts the threat.

Blair’s remarks, in which he also attacks some civil liberty campaigners as ‘loopy loo’, were made in a Channel 4 documentary recorded last Tuesday on the eve of his departure from Downing Street.

‘The idea that as a Muslim in this country that you don’t have the freedom to express your religion or your views, I mean you’ve got far more freedom in this country than you do in most Muslim countries,’ Blair told Observer columnist Will Hutton, who presents the documentary. ‘The reason we are finding it hard to win this battle is that we’re not actually fighting it properly. We’re not actually standing up to these people and saying, “It’s not just your methods that are wrong, your ideas are absurd. Nobody is oppressing you. Your sense of grievance isn’t justified.”’

“PM defiant over ‘al-Qaeda threat’”

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “Britain will not yield despite a sustained threat from people associated with al-Qaeda, Gordon Brown has said after three terror attacks in the UK.

The prime minister was speaking after a burning car driven into Glasgow Airport on Saturday was linked to two car bombs found in London’s West End on Friday.

Five people have been arrested over the attacks - two at the airport, two later in Cheshire and a fifth in Liverpool.

Houses in Staffordshire, Liverpool and near Glasgow are also being searched.

Critical condition

Home Secretary Jacqui Smith said the British public would not be “intimidated or let anyone stop us getting on with our lives”.

Speaking after the government’s emergency response unit, Cobra, held its fourth meeting in three days, she said a formal statement will be made in the Commons on Monday.

One of the suspects held at Glasgow Airport suffered severe burns and was taken to Royal Alexandra Hospital, in Paisley, where he is said to be in a critical condition.

A controlled explosion was later carried out at the hospital on a car, thought to be connected to the attack on Glasgow Airport, police said.

Scotland Yard said two people arrested on the M6 in Cheshire overnight - a 26-year-old man and 27-year-old woman - have been brought to London for questioning.

A spokesperson said Merseyside Police had arrested a 36-year-old man and were searching two addresses in the Liverpool area.

Staffordshire Police said its officers were involved in searches of addresses in Newcastle-under-Lyme with the West Midlands Counter Terrorism Unit and Met personnel.”

I think if we don’t see another attempt in the next 48 hours this little run may be done. After the first two did not go off, I strongly suspected we would see more attempts—maybe to prove that they could indeed do what they wanted ti do. Now that we have a third “failure” I would expect those who don’t get arrested to go into hiding for some time to regroup and figure out what went wrong. Unfortunately, there are many other plots going on concurrently.
