Ok...other than platitudes, what specifically would you do to reform border control? It seems like you don't have any solutions just anger which is useless for actually solving the problem.

What good would that do? You apparently aren't listening.

Go read the '86 legislation, when you really are moved to understand what I said.

Freb Barnes, and his equally incometent liberal partner Mort Kondracke, are both very painful to listen to... stuttering, blubbering idiots who say in 5 minutes what could be said in one. When either one is on a panel, I thank God for the remote conrol.

For your perusal on a rainy day. You might even ask yourself if the authorities really are discharging in good faith their sworn obligations under Simpson Mazzoli - their PROMISE to the American people.

There are also provisions for increased border enforcement and stiff prohibitions against illegals gaining public services. Its ALREADY LAW.

The Act requires employers and employment agencies to only hire, continue to employ or refer for employment those foreign nationals who are authorized to work in the United States. Illegal aliens who entered the United Sates before January 1, 1982, and have resided here continuously are "grandfathered" under the terms of this Act. This law applies to all employers regardless of size or industry.

Job applicants must produce documentation to verify that they are either U.S. citizens or aliens/foreign nationals who are authorized to work in the United Sates. Documents which are acceptable as proof of an applicant's identity and employment eligibility are as follows: passport, birth certificate, driver's license.

The Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) requires both employers and newly-hired employees to sign an employment verification form (Form I-9) which certifies an employee's identity and employment eligibility. I-9 forms must be retained by the employer for three years after the date of hire or one year after the date of termination. With three days advance notice, the INS or the Labor Department may inspect an employer's recordkeeping. Fines will be assessed for violations of verification or recordkeeping.

Employers may be subject to a fine of up to $10,000 for each illegal alien hired. Jail sentences may be imposed on employers exhibiting a pattern of hiring illegal aliens. Employers may not use the Act's requirements as a foundation for discriminating against individuals on the basis of national origin.

This whole thing has me thinking our Country is going down the tubes. If W thinks this is good for America, then what will make it even ‘better’ for America?

Maybe just open the borders and instant citizenship. Then comes the question ‘what is “Best” for America?’ Hate to see what that could be.

>>Rush is the one raising the level of debate to an irrational hysteria. Maybe he is thinking about an early retirement. I don’t trust him. Actually I never did. He reminds me of the reincarnation of a snake oil salesmen<<

That shows a lot about you. You are no conservative. You are one of the moderates just like the lot of them who just got booted off of FR.

Hope you are next.

I asked MNJ that once myself. Anyone can do a search of MNJ posts and see that there is no argument so asinine that he/she won’t make it. And will argue vehemently.

t is sheer lunacy if one cannot project the effectiveness of this single simple low-cost step if applied to the entirety of the southern border. Mr Bush's efforts to date have been half-hearted, surely you must admit that.

I think building a barrier of some sort may have an effect. It's not clear how much of one because not everything scales up. While I think it's fair to say that border control hasn't been the A-1 priority with the Bush Administration, it's somewhat unfair to say it's been ignored.

He already HAS the laws on the books. Enforce them, NOW, and then get back to us.

The Republicans are so worried about the Mexican vote, that they are trying to cowtow to them to get their vote. If it weren't so serious, it would be almost laughable. All they are doing is importing millions of Democrat votes. The irony of the situation is that if they got really tough on illegal immigration, they would win elections in landslides by getting a majority of the Americans votes. Even most legal immigrants are sick and tired of the illegals. They took the time, trouble, and expense to do it right and they are angry that the illegals are bypassing the system. How the Republicans can be so incredibly stupid and blind is beyond me. It looks deliberate to me. But why? That's what I'm having trouble with. Why would people deliberately sell their country and their own party down the river? Surely they must know they are handing the country to the dems.

Employers are already doing all of that. I’ve not worked anyplace where I didn’t have sign an I-9. If the illegals are presenting fake papers, there’s little employers can do.

3. You can only have a bank and credit card account if you are legal.

This one just amazes me. My DIL filed bankruptcy about 8 or 9 years ago and she still can't open a checking or savings account, but illegals break the law by unlawfully entering this country and can open a bank account at any bank. Its just unreal. We have become second class citizens in our own country.

Employers know they are hiring illegals. They just look the other way when the ID looks questionable or the person says they will bring in their paperwork later or they fall back on the old can’t speak English excuse. I used to work at a place where they were hiring kids as young as 13 years old just because they told the boss they were 18. Some of these kids were no more than children still playing with toys.

I understand this but there's little you can do about it legally. If employers are obeying the letter of the law if not the spirit there's not a lot that can be done. Unless you want to have a national employment database where government bureaucrats determine if you can work or not.

Why would people deliberately sell their country and their own party down the river?

I honestly believe the start of the sell-out has its genesis in the Supreme Court decision to grant Corporations the same standing before the Bar as a Man. ["It has been implicit in all of our decisions since 1886 that a corporation is a 'person' within the meaning of the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment." Santa Clara Co. v. South. Pacific R. Co., 118 U.S. 394, 396] They have been and are handing the country over to the corporations -- it's now becoming blatant and open.
