I don’t disagree with you. Gonzalez is a lousy Attorney General, another instance of Bush choosing an unqualified person just because he is a personal friend, but now we are stuck with him until the end of Bush’s presidency, because there’s no way the Democrats will let Bush appoint a decent replacement. And that was how Watergate got started, with the Dems forcing out the AG and replacing him with one of their own.
Bush’s amnesty and his behavior toward the base is frankly dreadful, but he is President until his term is up, so our only choice is to try to pressure him and everyone in congress not to pass the damned thing.
In the meantime, we still have to support him against these partisan attacks, and try to hold things together as well as we can.
I wonder what you think a good attorney General would do? Would he be rolling up the ELF? Arrest and charge terrorists? Go after corruption in Ill and NJ? This nonsense about the US attorneys is like the when are you going to stop beating your wife thing. No way to deal with it, but it is malicious nonsense.
I am through defending Bush from anything. Personally, at this point, I hope he spends ALL his remaining time in office defending crap like this, without support from anyone. It may be the only way to stop him giving our country away.
