Blanco: up to $700 M found in state money for Road Home
Associated Press - June 2, 2007 8:54 PM ET

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Governor Blanco says her administration has found up to $700 million in state money to put into the state's hurricane rebuilding program for homeowners.

The program faces a possible deficit of as much as five billion dollars.

This evening's (Saturday's) announcement is the first time the governor has backed off from a stand that the federal government should cover the entire Road Home program, which provides rebuilding grants to people whose homes were damaged or destroyed by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

In a press release, Blanco said Congress has forgiven some state obligations, and Louisiana in turn will use state money for the Road Home shortfall. She says her administration has currently identified between 600 million and $700 million for that purpose.

She did not say where the money would come from. The state House has approved a $29.6 billion budget that does not include anything for the Road Home.

Her announcement came two days after the state's auditor estimated the program's potential deficit at five billion dollars -- and after growing insistence by Democrats in Congress and the Legislature that the state would have to put in money toward the deficit.

That’s only 7 $100 million homes. There are more than 7 democrats needing houses down there.

Edith Bunker Blank-O, chair warming windbag and the most incompetent governor a state filled with incompetants will ever elect.

The people of Louisiana, to paraphrase H. L. Mencken, are getting what they voted for, good and hard.

Why buy insurance if the government will rebuilt all the homes.

What is wrong with the insurance companies that they allow the government to undermine their busines.

Wherever she found this money, we can be certain of one thing. It came out of the pockets of the taxpaying public.

And to think most of Louisiana shrugged off Bobby Jindal for this piece of work...

For those people, you got what you deserved.
