I’m sure you can imagine what negative headlines would be spun against him if he were to announce now and only have a couple of weeks to fundraise and then have to disclose those numbers. The media wouldn’t provide any context of his new candidacy and would exploit it as a poor performance.
As is, he’s getting LOTS of publicity without spending a nickle.
