There were two pretty good reasons to vote for President Bush. Al Gore and John Kerry. But for now, it is dreadful to watch President Bush “put asunder” the Republican Party.

yes—in both elections, W was the lesser of the two
evils, or was that the evil of the two lessers?

I agree with you, Ent, that Gore and Kerry were two good reasons to vote for Bush, and I'd probably do it again, but if the Illegal Immigration Crisis results in the permanent destruction of the Republican Party, terrorists' infiltration across the open border, or some other horrifying consequence, Bush may turn out to have been the worse choice after all.

Bush has kept the U.S. safe from another 9/11 attack, and for that he is to be commended.

However his failure--in fact refusal--to close the Mexican Border and stop Illegal Immigration may ultimately do more damage to the U.S. than Gore or Kerry might have done.

You can say one thing for G. W. Bush: He seems to have united Americans across the Red/Blue cultural divide--a dubious achievement considering the context.

Remember when we compared him to Washington, Lincoln, Truman, Teddy Roosevelt, Churchill, Jefferson, Reagan??? Now we're comparing him to Jimmy Carter.

On the other hand, my greatest concern about Illegal Immigration is that all these immigrants will likely vote the decadent, depraved Democrats into office, and, if this has sufficient power and duration, it will definitely mean the destruction of the United States.

If I knew that all these immigrants would vote the Democrats out of office and power, I would personally place a Welcome Mat on the Rio Grande.

Considering this, Dick Morris' suggestion that the Republicans grant amnesty in the hope of making committed Republicans of all these people warrants consideration.

There are two big problems:

There's no way to assure that these people will become Republicans, and

After witnessing the behavior of the Republican President G. W. Bush and the Republican Congress, one can't help wondering if any of these people can be trusted with the welfare of the American people and the U.S.A.
