Fred Thompson is in the race, Rothenberg said, “because the media needs a new name. He’s a vessel each of you can pour your hopes and dreams into, the Republican Barack Obama.”

What an idiot. Fred is in there not because the media but because of the GOP base who are dying for a candidate who can articulate conservative values.

“if history were a guide... no party earns third terms.”

If history were a guide, no woman would become president...

I have thought that this is the probable match-up, too. Romney is respectable and can show governing ability. He will need to overcome the Mormon factor. I have conservative friends who view Mormonism as a cult. He needs to get out there and build trust nationally. I personally would like to see a different frontrunner with Mitt as the VP candidate. Then he could build the trust he needs to run for the Presidency. I don’t believe that Hillary is electable. I would have loved to see her confront the staffer that misspelled tomorrow on the banner behind her from the last speech. It must have been like the millennium celebrations! Bloomberg would only take Dem votes away from Hillary. I can’t imagine any respectable conservative voting for Bloomberg.

We conservatives are just a fringe minority you know. Since it’s been made clear to me that I don’t care about the country and just want to frighten people I’m thinking of supporting Hagar the Horrible.

Thank you for posting this, TexanSniper. As soon as the political ‘vets’ makes such a statement, I know immediately that it can’t possibly come to pass. I like Romney and I would love to see him crush any Dem. candidate in a debate, but it will be much more fun if the dummy in question is either Obama or Edwards.

What a race! A true Boston Bra min against a mosey little Sixties Marxist. I wish.

But I don’t think it will happen. Neither Clinton or Obama will get the nomination. The insiders behind the scenes who pull the strings have got to know that neither Clinton or Obama has a chance of winning the White House.

Clinton simply has too much negative political and criminal baggage to survive even the pillow fight Republicans will probably put up. Obama is so far to the left that Democrat have not dared to talk about his voting record which is far to the left of even Clinton’s.. And he keeps talking about “free” universal health care.

On top of that, the brutal truth is that America is not yet ready for a black or a woman president. Maybe next time.

It’s highly doubtful if Democrats can even hang onto control of Congress in 08.

Political vets predict Romney vs. Clinton

As the field of candidates stands now, that's an easy prediction to make.

I’ll hold my nose and vote for Mitt.
I won’t for McCain or Rudy.

The headline of the article is a bit misleading. While the article mentions Hillary as a front runner for her party, on the Republican side it does not mention a clear frontrunner whether it is Mitt or Fred leading the race for Republican nomination.

Anybody who says they know who’s going to be the nominee at this point is...how to put this delicately?...venting his colon.

Rothenberg, who handicapped the GOP race, said “I don’t know what the hell’s happening. Normally, you’d look for the oldest white guy in the race.”

Such keen political insight is hard to find. Perhaps I too can be a political handicapper. My observation is that the democrats typically take the most pompous, unlikable jerk available (Kerry, Gore, Mondale...just skip Clinton). So by that observation, Hillary is a shoe in. And that formula has proven results! Losses! All she needs to do to lock it in is hire Bob Shrum.

I’d like to see it happen. The cokehead from Chicago is the posterboy for the decadence of the left. He’ll contrast poorly against Mitt Romney.
