Regarding Fred Thompson--it seems as though he married for the first time when he was 17, in 1959. He got divorced '25 years later', which would be approximately 1984. By all accounts, it was a friendly divorce. I haven't been given any reason yet to think that the divorce was even his idea. He remarried in 2002, approximately 18 years after his divorce. That's not what anyone could call: 'trading the old one in on a younger model'.
