All reports are that the Rep Senators like Lott, Alexander and others had a very harm time on this issue with their supporters this weekend..
Did Vincente Fox write the article? It surely wasn’t written by an American citizen.
Was this written by an hysterical little girl?
Even more perversely, the amendment applies retroactively. So people who crossed illegally years ago even those whose sentences have been suspended would be subject to the drastic consequences of being declared aggravated felons. They would face mandatory detention and deportation under already negligible protections of due process.————————————————————————
What protection of “due process” would that be? They aren’t Americans! Why should they get American benefits?!
“Some people who used fake identity papers a huge portion of the undocumented population would be disqualified.”
Hear, hear!!! WooHoo... Finally someone mentioned this!
That’s what I’ve been wondering aloud about for the last few days.
They say “It’s not amnesty”. Well, if the criminals who have perpetrated ID Theft/Fraud and/or Tax Evasion don’t receive the same punishment for these criminal offenses as U.S. Citizens do (if not worse), then it is Amnesty no matter how you spin it...
If our political leaders care about the welfare of the American people and the U.S., they should take their time, examine it carefully, and make sure everyone knows what's going on. But--as the ancient Spartans replied to Philip of Macedonia: If!
Responsible politicians--if there are any in Washington--should pass provisions of the bill in segments.
First--should be closure of the Mexican Border, its fortification, and a halt to further illegal immigration.
Other provisions should be taken up after that.
To pass a sweeping omnibus bill--that no one understands or knows what's in--is the height of recklessnes and irresponsibility! The American people have every reason to be outraged!
For Republican politicians to defer to the good will and honesty of Democrat politicians is ridiculous!

>>The coalition that struck the deal has so far stood firm against efforts to gut its more generous and sensible provisions.<<
It’s “generous” all right, but it’s only “sensible” if you believe that we would like to legalize lawbreakers and gang members, and taxpayers should pay for their immigration lawyers.
>>Its ostensible purpose is to close a gaping loophole that Mr. Cornyn says would allow terrorists, gang members and sex offenders into the country. But his real target is bigger than that. He had no appetite for the bipartisan compromise and now wants to destroy it by attacking one of its pillars: a path to legal status for an estimated 12 million immigrants.<<
I don’t know about 12 million, but I hope he succeeds if that is his goal.
>>Mr. Cornyn would do this by significantly expanding the universe of offenses that make someone ineligible for legalization. Some people who used fake identity papers a huge portion of the undocumented population would be disqualified. The amendment would also expand the definition of aggravated felonies, an already overbroad category of crimes, to include the act of entering or re-entering the country illegally.<<
I will predict that his amendment will be voted down, and maybe that will give some Senators that are not totally corrupt an excuse to vote NAY.
If his amendment is voted down and the bill becomes law, illegals with 2 DUI convictions will be here forever, and we can start counting the traffic deaths that will result.
TGF Sen. John Cornyn
We just subjects of the United States. I remember hearing that Americans were stupid people, I know know for a fact that this is 100% correct.
WRITE! WRITE! WRITE! WRITE! TILL YOU RUN OUT OF INK IN YOUR PEN!
Bombard the Democrats as well, especially the ones that ran on an anti illegal immigration plank and the ones in marginal districts who could be vulnerable. keep pounding on them. This is a bipartisan issue not a Conservative or Liberal issue BUT AN AMERICAN issue.
Attention NY Times editors: Immigrants already have legal status!
