Iraqi army kills Al-Qaeda leader in Baghdad ("Abu Abdullah with the crippled arm")

BAGHDAD (AFP) - Iraqi soldiers have killed a senior Al-Qaeda leader in a clash inside one of Baghdad's historic Sunni quarters, military spokesman Brigadier General Qassim Atta said Monday.

"He was from Al-Qaeda, they called him the 'Governor of Adhamiyah'," Atta told AFP. "He was killed during clashes with the 11th Division's first brigade this morning, and 11 of his aides were arrested."

Adhamiyah is a Sunni enclave in north Baghdad, a cluster of streets around an historic mosque surrounded by a US-built concrete security barriers and hostile Shiite districts roamed by militia fighters.

Atta said the alleged Al-Qaeda chieftain was an Iraqi citizen known as Abu Abdullah al-Adhab -- "Abu Abdullah with the crippled arm."

Abdullah's death is the second reported killing of an Al-Qaeda street captain since last week, when nationalist insurgents in the Sunni suburb of Amiriyah violently turned against Al-Qaeda's Islamists.

You could say the same thing about the VC. But by 1969, they ceased to be effective. They existed, but not nearly what they had been in 1965.

“Vengeance is mine,.........”

If I was confident we would “extract” truthful worthwhile intel by ANY means necessary — I could deal with that -— But then he would become an INSTANT candidate for a firing squad as an illegal combatant with no protection under the Geneva Conventions or the “Rules of War”... NONE.

If I was confident his buds would off him for talking, I would — But I’m NOT confident..

These people have shown a remarkable ability to forgive each other in the pursuit of infidel corpses...and an unbelievable incompetence in KEEPING them incarcerated...

My call - illegal combatant, no quarter given and certainly none expected — get what you can and kill the sonuvabitch..

That is the ONLY way to avoid having to face the bastard again...

Wear a “white hat” with these bastards, and all that will earn you is a container for your severed head.

But then I'm an old curmudgeon who has always been a hard ass...

Though I am all for extraction, maybe screwing with their minds or humiliating them. I agree, the basis of the Geneva Conventions is that they are persona non grata on arrival, they are only fit for a firing squad.

Unfortunately by taking them “prisoner” that does by law imply they might be held as one.

However if we simply kill them at will, without mercy methodically and machine like, I think that like all personalities that people have they would simply acknowledge that we are the masters and they are the servants.

That I believe is the psychology of the mainstream muslim community. These people are like wolf packs if you show any remorse whatsoever they swarm and pounce. We have to show absolute dominance, not hearts and minds because their hearts and minds will change when the Jihadists start bombing again.

I never was much into “humiliation”.....
I also never liked to “play with my fish”, until they were in the boat....

Likewise — I prefer my enemy dead.. Very dead....confirmed dead....without question dead.....as quickly as possible...

“Abu Abdullah with the crippled arm.”

Not a bad starting point for our lyricists and Light Verse Brigade.

"Unfortunately by taking them “prisoner” that does by law imply they might be held as one."

Exactly why allowing the enemy to achieve "prisoner status" should be very carefully avoided - unless there is a SPECIFIC person and purpose to grant "prisoner status"...

We're there to destroy the enemy -- not to incarcerate him.
