Given the Senate is threatening to give away the farm this week, I decided I had to do something. Sure I could call my Senators (Jim Webb and John Warner [choke, gag]) on the phone and harp. I could stand outside the Whitehouse, RNC HQ, or the Capitol - alone or with just a few from the DC Chapter and picket. Or, I could create something that a large number of people might be interested in putting to good use. Even those who might otherwise not bother with corresponding with their legislators.

So I scanned one of the many RNC solicitations I've recieved in the mail so I could dress it up and make it say what I'm really thinking. Not one of their bogus canned responses.

But that's not all. Make it so you can edit it.

What you see below is a sample letter I created.

Try creating your own. You'll be able to edit the TO:, FROM:, SALUTATION, MESSAGE, and the QUOTE coming out of President Bush's mouth. You'll see "El Presidente Jorge Bush" highlighted. Type in something else. Press the <TAB> key to move to next field or just press your mouse button over the various fields.

Once you're satisfied print it off along with the self addressed envelope.

STOP THE IMMIGRATION REFORM BILL!

Let them know: Amnesty = no money!

Years ago, I received a generic fundraising plea from the RNC. It was all in caps, as if they were 1) shouting at me, and 2) ultra-paranoid. I sent back Monopoly money ($1). Never heard from them again. I mean sheesh, if they can’t even pretend to be sane for the sake of raising money... screw ‘em.

Actually, that's a very clever web page.

You design it yourself or is it a template from Yahoo? I had to download it to look at the code. I'm not sure how it looks in IE6/7 but on Safari for the Mac and Firefox, the last TEXTAREA for the body of the letter is too wide. That width should be around 80 instead of 90. Some of us don't run IE any more because of security issues.

Designed it myself. I don't have a Mac to test it on. Thanks for the advice. When I have the time I'll see about adding more customization for font size control, etc. One thing you can try (works for Netscape and Firefox on PCs - not sure about Macs) is hold down the control key and press the minus key "<Ctrl>-". That reduces the font size each time you do that. Likewise, the plus sign increases it.

Firefox renders (via the Gecko engine) pretty much identically on PC and Mac. The Webkit engine in Safari is pretty close as well.
