Excerpt -

MUSCAT, Oman A powerful cyclone approaching the oil-rich Persian Gulf area forced the evacuation Monday of nearly 7,000 people from an Omani island, a government official said.

Cyclone Gonu, with winds of 160 miles per hour and gusts of 195 miles per hour, was headed northwest through the Indian Ocean toward Oman's east coast, said Weather Underground meteorologist Tim Roche.

I wondering that too but maybe we’re better off not knowing.

Prayers up for the safety of our men and women at sea.

No, we definately don’t need to know. I was just “posting out loud”. What I was really thinking was, where’s my son? :’)

This is the worst case scenario for a storm at sea. Restricted waterway and nowhere to manuever. Hopefully most of them got out into the Indian Ocean a few days ago. Then they can do their storm avoidance. Otherwise, they may have to ride out a very bad storm in narrow, shallow waters. Yikes!

One of the weather sites I go to is owned by the Navy. I’m sure they knew this was coming.

“Has this ever happened before?”

Not since records have been kept, but there is evidence to suggest that strong hurricanes may have affected the region in the past. From the Bible:

Exodus 14: 19-21
(NIV)

” 19 Then the angel of God, who had been traveling in front of Israel’s army, withdrew and went behind them. The pillar of cloud also moved from in front and stood behind them, 20 coming between the armies of Egypt and Israel. Throughout the night the cloud brought darkness to the one side and light to the other side; so neither went near the other all night long.

21 Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and all that night the LORD drove the sea back with a strong east wind and turned it into dry land. The waters were divided, 22 and the Israelites went through the sea on dry ground, with a wall of water on their right and on their left. “

Yes, but anything that can go wrong probably will. I’m reading a great book called “Halsey’s Typhoon” about the typhoon during WWII. What a fiasco. Plus, the Navy is tethered to the gulf. Not too long ago, there was the big exercise off of Iran. Lot of ships in there. One of my worst experiences at sea was riding out Super Typhoon Omar in 92. I’ve never puked so much in my life.

I’m sure. I don’t understand it but my son was telling me once how they would go up to the ceiling and then back down without falling. Prayers for our military and anyone else caught out in this.
