TRIPOLI, Lebanon, June 4 -- A few miles from Mona Abboud's bookstore in Tripoli, passengers in cars ducked below the dashboard as volleys of gunfire resounded like a jackhammer Monday. Earlier in the day, more clashes erupted at a Palestinian refugee camp three hours from here. By nightfall, a bomb had gone off in a Christian suburb of the capital, Beirut, the fourth in less than a month.
A grim Abboud, her hands thrusting ahead for emphasis, compared her country's plight to a debke, a folkloric dance.
"It's quiet for two months, then the debke begins again for six months," she said. Her words were tinged with a little weariness and a lot of sarcasm. "What do I want to tell you? It's just beautiful. Every day you wake up to something new.

Was surprised by Paul Harvey’s contention, some time back, that non-Jewish Semites are neither ready for, nor capable of, Western-style freedom and democracy. I fear he may be correct.

The difference between “non-Jewish Semites” and “Islamists” is? Are you splitting hairs? Government efficiency, military intelligence, patriotic Democrat Speaker of the House, moderate muslims?
Do you know what an Islamist is?
I neither know nor care exactly who or what an “Islamist” may be, but I’d expect I wouldn’t enjoy an Islamist’s company. In the past, I’ve had little positive experience with non-Jewish Semites. If you do know (or care) about ‘em, perhaps you would like to explain “Islamists” to me.

Here in the Middle east they are saying the Lebanese people want to squah al Qaeda in lebanon with quiet USA support and other countries in the Region are in support also and they all concur that Syria is in it’s death throes trying to Influence Lebanon even the People are tired of Hezboolah also ..The Construction in Lebanon is Booming...People want prosperity and Peace and they are on the road to accomplishing that!
You are forgetting there are millions of Arabic Christians - the Chaldeans, the Copts, the Lebanese & Syrian Christians. They aren't Jewish and they aren't muslims.
Concur completely. Arab Christians are, indeed, almost always forgotten, and they almost always will be. Like our Asians, they’re the Middle East’s “model minority”, hayna? Or no?
