I admire Victor Davis Hanson; and once again he is right on target as to the problem. However, I doubt that the American public can now muster the will to deal effectively with terrorism in the absence of a strike of massive proportions on the homeland. 9/11 did not have the power to rouse the nation to mobilize for a fight to the end with entire societies that harbor, aid, or merely tolerate the presence of assassins in their midsts.
I would dearly like to believe that more effort to inform the country of the danger that it is in would finally wake up the masses. Alas, nothing in my experience suggests this will be the case. IMHO, the 2006 midterm election results are indicative of the depth of the stupor.

Long ago (it seems) I figured we'd see another 20,000 murders before we actually got behind the WOT *as a nation*. I only hope those 20,000 are from the Left, not out of animosity, but rather because maybe they would actually take all this seriously. (Probably not even then.)
