The Honorable Mel Martinez
General Chairman
Republican National Committee
Dear Sen. Martinez,
On behalf of thousands of conservatives who are members of FreeRepublic.com, I am presenting you with the results of two membership polls regarding the Comprehensive Immigration Reform bill currently before the United States Senate.
The polls shows that less than ten percent of FReepers support the bill. While the polls options are posed in typical FReeper fashion, the results should be clearly understandable to the Republican leadership: The vast majority of FReepers believe the bill will destroy conservative support for the Republican party.
FreeRepublic.com is one of the most influential news analysis and activism sites on the Internet. Last year, Nielsen Net Ratings ranked it significantly higher in popularity than liberal websites such as the Daily Kos and Huffington Post (September 2006.)
The moniker Broken Glass Republican was coined by a FReeper in October 2000 to demonstrate the resolve of conservatives to crawl over broken glass to cast their vote to keep the Democrats out of power after the corruption and national security breaches of the Clinton administration.
In the aftermath of the 2000 elections, it was FReepers who out-organized the Democrats and led the Get out of Cheneys house! protests at Vice President Gores official residence in Washington, while in Florida the FReepers stood up to Al Gore and the Democrats attempts to steal the presidential election.
It was FReepers who saved the 2004 presidential election for President Bush by exposing as forgeries the National Guard documents CBS News attempted to smear him with.
Since the terror attacks of September 11, 2001, FReepers have been in the lead in organizing against the anti-American lefts efforts to bring about our defeat in the war on terror.
FReepers have stood by the Republican party because they believed the party to be a bulwark against the Democrats socialist policies and because of the Republicans strong stance on national security. They have reluctantly given the Republicans a pass on such non-conservative issues as Campaign Finance Reform and reckless government spending because we do not trust the Democrats to protect the national security of our country--especially in a time of war.
You should know that the Comprehensive Immigration Reform bill is seen by the vast majority of FReepers as such a betrayal of our national security and conservative principles that, should it become law, thousands of FReepers will feel the Republican party has left them and they will act accordingly.
Therefore, on behalf of the thousands of FReepers who oppose this bill, I urge the Republican leadership in the Senate, the House and the White House to reject this abomination of a bill.
Elected officials in both parties have promised for decades to secure Americas borders. They have demonstrated that their word cannot be trusted on this issue of paramount importance. It is insulting to say that we can only achieve control of our borders if we accept this amnesty bill disguised as comprehensive immigration reform.
Please tell President Bush and the Republican leadership that for the good of America, and the Republican party, this bill should be sliced, diced and flushed.
Sincerely,
Kristinn Taylor
Co-Leader

GOP is toast if amnesty passes poll results
General opinion of amnesty bill
Thanks to all the FReepers who backed us up yesterday with phone calls and faxes. EAGLES UP !!!
You are quite the gentleman, kristinn.......I’d have simply accused Martinez of opportunistic nepotism.
Let’s keep our eye on the ball. We want to fix immigration.
What’s the best way to get there?
Martineze don’t need no stinkin Freepers.....watch.
Great letter, but they aren’t listening to any of us these days. Just see the President’s response to Libby’s absurd ‘sentence’ and his no plans to intervene.
My President has lost his freakin mind.
You have a legacy.
The moniker Broken Glass Republican was coined by a FReeper in October 2000 to demonstrate the resolve of conservatives to crawl over broken glass to cast their vote to keep the Democrats out of power after the corruption and national security breaches of the Clinton administration.
And I sincerely hope there was someone there to read it to Martinez. Really.
IMHO, if Republicans would simply demand that the border-fence be built, Republicans would have ANOTHER election-winning issue.
(1) Cut taxes!
(2) Appoint non-activist judges!
(3) Build the border fence!
Why, oh why, can’t the GOP play the “aces” it has?
I object kristinn, I wasn’t consulted about MY views in the letter. I woulda added a couple swear words. But otherwise, carry on!
‘And I sincerely hope there was someone there to read it to Martinez. Really.’
No chance at all, it got thrown away immediately.
They aren’t listening to us.
Marty’s response:
“F*ck off, racist gringos”
To Martinez? Was it in Spanish or English?
Forward this Lou Dobbs, he will report this. Maybe even Brit.

And that's exactly what this letter does....
And we didn't do it for the glory, or the recognition. We did it because it was right. The RNC could learn something from that.
With the usual DC Chapter excellence...
Mel Martinez is a waste of time.
Good job!
Great letter, kristinn! Let’s hope a couple of wavering Senators read it and grow a spine.
This is the only change I would like to have seen, otherwise, excellent letter. Kudos. - OB1
