Democrats Hope to Expand (Terrorist) Rights at Guantánamo

A day after two military judges ruled against the Bush administration’s system for trying terrorism detainees, Democrats seized on the rulings on Tuesday as evidence that Congress should restore the right of those held at Guantánamo Bay, Cuba, to challenge their detentions.

Senator Harry Reid, the Nevada Democrat who is the majority leader, said he would be willing to bring such legislation to the floor. The Senate Judiciary Committee is preparing to approve such a plan on Thursday.

Senator Patrick J. Leahy, the Vermont Democrat who is chairman of the Judiciary Committee, said the rulings on Monday in two cases added urgency to the push to restore detainees’ right to file habeas corpus suits. Congress eliminated that right last year while redesigning the military tribunals after the Supreme Court struck down the first plan.

Mr. Leahy criticized the administration for insisting on an approach to the tribunals “which even conservative courts say no to.”

All those surprised by this, say "I".

What is their reasoning behind expanding the rights of terrorist? They give no explanations and none are demanded of them.

Yeah, let’s give the terrorist scum all the rights afforded citizens by our constitution. That’ll teach ‘em. This stupidity flies in the face of reason, and Harry Reid and the rest of the RATS must be insane to even suggest this latest move. I’d be for releasing all the Gitmo detainees if only we could guarantee they had to live in Reid’s or Leahy’s neighborhoods. These bastards are going to get us all killed in the name of shameless pandering to the moonbat left in this country. The next terror attack on American soil will be the result of just such ass-kissing by this corrupt bunch of sell-outs. They should be marched out of the congress and hanged from the nearest lamppost.

Maybe Bush will accuse the Democrats of not wanting to do what’s right for America...nah.

The Democrats were given their victory last November in large part due to their loony fringe and their loony media pals. Now, they're being called "traitors!" NOT because of this type of thing--but because they're not doing ENOUGH of this kind of thing.

Leave it to the dems to get it all and then screw it up with no help from the spineless republicans, who should be parading this stuff 24/7.

I will say it again: The dimlib scumbags actively working to defeat this country are going to find themselves to be legitimate targets when the radical muzzies start the shooting war over here.

It’s called “treason” which in time of war is punishable by death.

To head the list of RPG targets, I nominate the ACLU. Do I hear a second?

If Harry had his way he’d make all the detainees citizens of the US under the immigration bill...

Why not surrender and call it their Alger Hiss moment? Good heavens, I feel like I am back in the days of the Cold War where Dems frequently wanted to appease, appease and appease because America was really the enemy.
