Any immigrant who cares enough about presidential politics to pay attention to a debate at this stage of the campaign certainly knows English well enough to understand it. In short, it's a stunt.
It won't win him many Hispanic votes, but it sure would be interesting to watch.
dos naciones debajo del dios
oh, I remember that comment. hillarious.
“This is not the fault of Spanish-speaking immigrants, it’s a result of American liberals pushing their multi-cultural agenda.”

Well, with respect, I only think this is part of the problem. Think about it: We’ve heard all these rumors about a North American Union, then one for the Western Hemisphere. Excepting Canada (a two-language state already), and Brazil which speaks Portuguese, ONLY the United States speaks English.
From Mexico to Tierra Del Fuego there is ONE language spoken: Spanish.
From a purely logical standpoint, if the U.S. were to be relegated to just another part of a greater “union” (hah!) the only language that should be spoken is that spoken by the overwhelming majority of the Western Hemisphere:
Spanish.
It’s a depressing thought, because it’s getting more and more plausible that this is exactly what will happen, given our elites’ deaf ear to our anger against this amnesty bill.
First the amnesty,
Then the NAU
Then a Spanish-speaking Western Hemisphere.
I pray we’ll do everything we can to stop all this; I still believe it’s possible, but not for much longer.
Two “something”? and “something”? debate? of the gods?
Sorry, but all the Spanish I know comes from reading my electric bill...:)
My Spanish is limited to what Google can translate.
It would probably be better phrased as, ‘Dos Naciones debajo Dios’.
Look, I live in Canada.
What we have here is group of people in a particular geographic region
that see themselves as being ethnically, culturally, linguistically
and historically distinct from the rest of Canada.
They see themselves as a distinct nation
and claim a certain part of the country as their ancestral homeland.
They use the acceptance of their claims by the rest of Canada
to enforce their language as the only one allowed in their area of control,
to decide who immigrates into their portion of the country,
to claim a seat on international bodies.
They have brought the country dangerously close to dissolution through narrowly defeated referendums.
Now Canada isn’t the worse place in the world to live by any stretch,
but the innate differences and tensions between the two cultures can be debilitating.
Particularly so in times of crisis and foreign threats.
I fear that the dynamics active here are going to be mirrored in the US.
The pieces are all there...a massive demographic shift centered in a portion of the US
with an influx of people of distinct ethnic, cultural, linguistic background,
some portion of which see this immigration/invasion as a reconquista of their homeland.
Will the US become as Canada?
Will it no longer be One Nation under God?
But rather Two Nations under God....Dos Naciones debajo Dios
Or even worse...will the self-hatred exhibited by the left
so weaken the nation that it will be unable to prevent,
or may even welcome, the disintegration of the US
and the forming of a independent nation in the southwest.
Candidates, even the current President of the United States has aired radio and TV ads in spanish. Seems that a debate in spanish is the next logical step in the process.
I thought it stood for University of Mexico!
Now that’s funny, thanks for the giggle.
Look, enough is enough....I would never vote for any candidate who participates in such a debate. If our US candidates want to run for office in some other country in Central and South America, then let them go for it. But not here Dammit!
Because. The Spaniard bigots wouldn't stand for that.
They aren't cultural liberals who seek abstract multiculturalism. They're nationalists who seek to replace the language of this country - which they despise - with the language of the countries and nations that they identify with - the Spanish speaking ones!
There is no movement in Mexico, or South America, or Central America, and definitely not in Spain to replace Spanish or even to allow different languages to co-exist. Hell, they have running battles over the use of Spanish dialects in those countries. Try advocating the use of English in a Mexican political campaign and see how long you live. That's how serious they take it.
The multiculturalism crap is just camoflauge for the real intent: take over and supplant the hated Gabacho culture and hegemony with Latin American culture.
Only get the Anglos to pay for it. That's a key point.
Yep, just keep promising welfare benefits in Spanish, I’ll never know.
That's the plan!
They’ll have to destroy the Constitution first.........
>>Excepting...Brazil...From Mexico to Tierra Del Fuego there is ONE language spoken: Spanish<<
Anguilla (pop.: 14,000), official language: ENGLISH
Antigua and Barbuda (pop.: 70,000), official language: ENGLISH
Belize (pop.: 294,000), official language: ENGLISH
Netherlands Antilles (pop.: 223,000), official language: DUTCH
Suriname (pop.: 470,000), official language: DUTCH
Source: C.I.A. World Factbook
etc., etc.
Okay, I’m stupid.
Total these numbers up, then, and compare them with the number of native Spanish speakers in the Western Hemisphere. I, too remember learning about British, French and Dutch Guyana in grade school as well. Oh, yeah, British Honduras, among others, too... You are literally right, and I am literally wrong...
I don’t know if you’re one of those who dislikes those of us who appear to be disrespecting the Little Brown Ones, and I want to be clear that I am *not* disrespecting them. My point is that there is a depressing trend to treat non-Americans of ALL colors preferentially.
Laundry list: In-state tuition regardless of time of residency; tax amnesty for two of five years; emergency room visits granted and ability to pay is unquestioned, unless the patient is obviously non-Hispanic (I have witnessed this personally); WIC; Guaranteed sanctuary from city officials.
etc., etc...
My point is that all events seem to point to our becoming marginalized as a nation and that the official language spoken in the Western Hemisphere will be that spoken by the largest number of people.
I’ll also bet that people who live in those lands where English and Dutch are spoken also have a pretty good grasp of Spanish, too.
I don’t have a problem with learning a little Spanish willingly; I resent being force to learn it to get along in my own country — and I see that coming.
Re: your #32:
You have got in nailed, my FRiend.
Other than Brazil, you might be able to identify oh, about 8 million ( ~ 2% ) speaking either French, English, or Dutch (Haiti is the big outlier, with 6.1 million speaking French).
And Portugese is, er....a Latin language, quite close to Spanish.
Your example merely proves the rule.
They should have it on September 15 instead. That’s the day in 1847 that 7200 brave U.S. military men defeated 16,000 Mexican troops and took Mexico City. Ending the Mexican-American war.
September 15 should be a national holiday.
