As if people weren’t disenchanted enough with the political process. This would pretty much rip it for me.

This is not the fault of Spanish-speaking immigrants, it's a result of American liberals pushing their multi-cultural agenda.
Any immigrant who cares enough about presidential politics to pay attention to a debate at this stage of the campaign certainly knows English well enough to understand it. In short, it's a stunt.

If they do this I think that Tancredo should sandbag and wait until the last minute to accept the invitation and then attend and answer questions on illegal immigration with his usual eloquence.
It won't win him many Hispanic votes, but it sure would be interesting to watch.

Look, enough is enough....I would never vote for any candidate who participates in such a debate. If our US candidates want to run for office in some other country in Central and South America, then let them go for it. But not here Dammit!

They should have it on September 15 instead. That’s the day in 1847 that 7200 brave U.S. military men defeated 16,000 Mexican troops and took Mexico City. Ending the Mexican-American war.
September 15 should be a national holiday.

In 1917, former U.S. President Theodore Roosevelt said: We must have but one flag. We must also have but one language. That must be the language of the Declaration of Independence, of Washington's Farewell address, of Lincoln's Gettysburg speech and second inaugural. By contrast, in June 2000, U.S. president Bill Clinton said, I hope very much that I'm the last president in American history who can't speak Spanish. And in May 2001, President Bush celebrated Mexico's Cinco de Mayo national holiday by inaugurating the practice of broadcasting the weekly presidential radio address to the American people in both English and Spanish. In September 2003, one of the first debates among the Democratic Party's presidential candidates also took place in both English and Spanish. Despite the opposition of large majorities of Americans, Spanish is joining the language of Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln, the Roosevelts, and the Kennedys as the language of the United States. If this trend continues, the cultural division between Hispanics and Anglos could replace the racial division between blacks and whites as the most serious cleavage in U.S. society.
