Organization asking people to gather at airport for arrival of soldier's body today

By ADAM J. HOLLAND

Thursday, June 07, 2007

Local organizers of a national veterans motorcycle escort group are asking East Texans to join them this afternoon as they honor the family of a local man killed in Iraq a week ago.

The body of Sgt. Chadrick Omar Domino, a 23-year-old former Longview resident, is scheduled to arrive by private jet at the East Texas Regional Airport shortly before 5 p.m. today.

He will be escorted to Stanmore Funeral Home in Longview by the Patriot Guard Riders and other volunteers, according to Robert Young, the organization's area ride captain.

"We are asking anyone who can come out to do that," Young said. "It doesn't matter what their political affiliation is or whether or not they ride a motorcycle. The only prerequisite is to show respect."

Young said participants, including individuals and organizations, are asked to assemble at the airport's main terminal at 4 p.m., where they will be provided with American flags and instructions.

The airport is located eight miles south of Longview on Texas 322 at F.M. 349.

Thanks for the ping. What time will the flight come in? I am waiting for my grandson to get here. If time, we may come out there.

Sgt. Domino, rest in peace. God bless the family and all those who are there to show how much we value his sacrifice.

Let the parents know, you know someone in NYC who lost friends and used to work at WTC; Dom is my son, he is our son. Tell them they’re in my prayers.

Bump Everyone, Here is a follow up article of the events yesterday. Warning, eye watering may occur.

'Our baby, our child, our soldier': Reverence, pride greet fallen soldier's return to native town

Against a blue East Texas sky, flags waved in the breeze while family and friends circled to bring home one of their own — a soldier just shy of his 24thbirthday who gave his life for his country.
U.S. Army Sgt. Chadrick Omar Domino died May 31 in Iraq from small arms fire while onpatrol in Baghdad. His flag-draped coffin was brought back Thursday to Gregg County in a ceremony befitting the native son and decorated Army soldier. Between 75 and 100 people lined the tarmac at the East Texas Regional Airport. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Red Oak Baptist Church, 2717 S. Martin Luther King Blvd
"He was our baby, our brother, our child, our soldier, and he paid the ultimate price fighting for our freedoms," said Evelyn Robison Simmons, 54, of Elderville. Simmons was among a group of former classmates, co-workers, relatives and friends who came to the airport to support the fallen soldier's mother, Gloria Domino, and his sister, Ursula Domino, and to pay tribute to the young man they had known for so long.......

...During a special ceremony, local Boy and Cub Scouts, representatives from the Veterans of Foreign War Post 1183, the U.S. Army honor team from Fort Hood and the 3rd Battalion 144th Infantry Texas Army National Guard paid tribute to the Longview soldier. In the stillness, while the hearse rolled along the tarmac, the Patriot Guard motorcycle riders prepared to give escort to the cemetery. Speaking for the 12 or so riders from the Longview area, Robert Young, senior ride captain, said the life of Chadrick Domino mattered. "It matters to us, and to all here, that this person believed in the freedom of our country and was willing to put his life on the line for that belief," Young said.
