A New Hampshire woman, frustrated with Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney's opposition to gay marriage, made a point of telling him about her personal experience. "I am a gay woman and I have children. Your comment that you just made, it sort of invalidates my family," said Cynthia Fish, a mother of a 6- and 8-year-old. "... I wish you could explain to me more, why if we are sending our troops over to fight for liberty and justice for all throughout this country, why not for me? Why not for my family?"

Romney paused, asked Fish about her children and then praised her.

"Wonderful," Romney said. "I'm delighted that you have a family and you're happy with your family. That's the American way. ... People can live their lives as they choose and children can be a great source of joy, as you know. And I welcome that."

But then Romney repeated his view of marriage.

"Marriage is an institution which is designed to bring a man and woman together to raise a child and that the ideal setting for society at large is where there is a male and a female are associated with the development and nurturing a child," Romney said.

The former Massachusetts governor acknowledged other scenarios that raise children.

"There are other ways to raise kids that's fine: single moms, grandparents raising kids, gay couples raising kids. That's the American way, to have people have their freedom of choice,"......

1. They did fight for your freedom, and you have it.

2. They did not fight so all your decisions can be validated.

It is not fine to have gay “couples” raising kids. Children need moral guidance as much as they need a roof over their heads.

Well, you can turn out the lights on that campaign.

Good grief, why are presidential candidates debating gay anything. I can’t imagine the founding fathers having such discussions.

The McCain camp has been busy spreading this manufactured story. Anything to divert attention away from the immigration monstrosity he helped create. His campaign is going down so he’s gone negative. But, if you think about it, this is good for Mitt. McCain is admitting that Romney is the one to beat.

Exactly! Just one I'd like to hear a candidate point out that the 10th Amendment will be restored and the Sovereignty of the Nation assured by their actions.

The irony is that homosexuals are treated better today in the year 2007 in America than ever before. Yet some are so distressed about not being allowed “gay marriage”.

And homosexuals are treated better in America than most other countries. but that doesn’t matter to some.

Those homosexuals who are religious should pray every day their thanks that they live in as accepting a country as America, rather than a place like Saudi Arabia. Saudi Arabia is not exactly tolerant of diversity.

Huh? Pulling the religous tripe card? Good grief. Do we live in Iraq or America?

>>>Well, you can turn out the lights on that campaign.<<<

On a candidate who turns the tables on a woman griping about his position, appeases her, and then who tells her that he stands firmly in favor of one man and one woman?

Are you sure you don’t need to be at the DU?

"...designed by God," would have been better. But then there are those who would add polygamy to the ancient narrative. And he'd have to take on that meghilla again.

Yep. They debate and legislate on the emotionally hot issues to distract us from the REAL issues. Our government has become a beast.

On a candidate who talks about what a wonderful thing homosexual adoption is during a primary in which he’s barely getting double-digit support.

Spare me the “you need to be at DU” stuff. It was a dumb thing to say for a guy in his position to say.
