I love Jim DeMint... the people of South Carolina can be proud of their Senator. His GOP colleague Lindsay Graham is a different story. Conservatives bamboozled the Dems and RINOs. I love, love, love it! Hehehehe... if I may borrow a famous cliche here, "Jim, its dead!" Great work!

If DeMint did orchestrate this assault on the amnesty bill, good for him. Lott should resign in disgrace and DeMint should replace him. DeMint apparently has more leadership capabilities than Lott.

"I'm embarrassed to say they were trying to kill the bill, and I'm ashamed of it," Republican Whip Trent Lott (R-Miss.) Your shame is seriously misplaced, Sen. Lott!

"White House spokesman Scott Stanzel said the issue is far from dead and that administration officials were taking heart from the fact that both Reid and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) indicated they would bring the matter back up for consideration."
Interesting for all kinds of reasons, the most petty of which is that Nancy can't bring the bill up at all, let alone back up, until the Senate passes it and sends it to the House. But I believe this is the key to what is going on.

Democratic and Republican negotiators scrambled for the rest of today to salvage the legislation, drafting lists of amendments to consider that would satisfy conservative opponents of the deal and trying to find a way to undo the guest-worker vote. But each time Reid presented an offer, DeMint and his allies rebuffed it. Their intransigence angered leaders from both parties."I've about had it," declared Minority Whip Trent Lott (R-Miss.). "I will not be a part of a protracted filibuster. We are not going to let this bill die by endless amendments."
The Compost is laying it on with so much melodrama I actually laughed out loud reading this.
Oh those wascally mean-spirited conservatives!!!

Leaders in both parties condemned the GOP switchers for conspiring to sabotage legislation that had taken countless delicate negotiating sessions to craft. Boo Hoo, it's soooooo sad. All those countless delicate sessions...
What cry babies.

Pansy Trent Lott should return to his roots, cheerleading. He's worthless as a US senator.

"The process has demonstrated that there is a strong bipartisan majority in the United States Senate that wants to see bipartisan, comprehensive reform," Stanzel said.Yeah 23% is a majority. Not
What there are, are generous business interests that are up against the wall as places like Hazleton and the entire state of Oklahoma begin to enforce current law. If they can not repeal the law as it stands now, they are done. And they will pay millions to try to accomplish this.

DeMint may have saved Kyl’s career. Kyl’s latest vote was against cloture, (so in effect Kyl helped to kill the bill), and perhaps that fact, plus Kyl’s conservative prestige prior to this immigration disaster, might save him.

Go to rightwingnews.com for more of a take on this.
Apparently DeMint, Sessions, Bunning and Coburn were extremely instrumental in killing this according to this story and Hawkins. I suspect Cornyn as well and we know Dorgan was.
We owe a debt of gratitude to the main adocates for our borders. I strongly supect Sessions was the ring leader in putting this together though. ;-) Kudos to them all for denying the pressures put on them. Now THAT is TRUE courage.
