Accused Fondler Out of Jail

NORWICH - Just three days after he was ordered held without bail, a Norwich man was re-released from jail and placed back on "farm arrest" after a sexual assault complaint that had been filed against him last week appeared to falter.
Gary Perkins, 53, was ordered released from the Southern State Correctional Facility in Springfield late Friday after Windsor County Deputy State's Attorney David Cahill told Judge Robert Bent that "the Norwich Police Department's investigation has moved along," and as a result, "the state does not believe the quality of information is sufficient at this time."
Perkins had been arrested by probation and parole officers on Monday, May 21, after a woman in her mid-20s alleged that Perkins had been repeatedly molesting her in a series of incidents over the approximately two-week period of time that she had known him while helping to care for his disabled wife. The alleged victim's report was only made to police after she said Perkins and another relative of his had fired her.
Perkins was the recipient of an unusually generous break from the legal system in March after he was convicted of being a habitual offender with up to ten previous drunk driving convictions and other serious run-ins with the law stretching back over decades.
At the time, friends and neighbors of Perkins persuaded the court to give him one last chance, saying he had made a remarkable transition to sobriety and needed to remain at his home so he could care for his ailing wife. Perkins was placed on "farm arrest," with the requirement that he not drive so much as a tractor, and only walk to neighboring residences and a farm where he could perform community service.
Questions about the accuracy of the allegations made against Perkins were raised at the time of his arrest by his court appointed public defender who pointed out that the Norwich Police Department had not sought to charge him with any crimes as a result of the report. At the time, Judge Bent said he felt the potential threat to public safety outweighed other concerns, based on the nature of what was being alleged; however, he noted from the bench that even then the evidence was "barely corroborated."
After Judge Bent reversed himself and released Perkins, Deputy State's Attorney Cahill noted that the decision did not mean the case had gone away entirely. "It is still in the investigative phase, but at this juncture there is not sufficient evidence to support holding him without bail on a violation of probation," Cahill said.
LA can’t keep celebs in jail more than three days either.
It sounds like he may not be a toad — that the woman made false alleagations against him after he had fired her. You wouldn’t want that to stand, would you?
LOL...true, maybe just do away the corrections system, because it doesn’t work anyhow and the government uses the money to arm the citizens...sounds like an idea?
I thought I was reading an article about Bill Clinton for a moment.
