Wow. You got it all figured out, don’t ya. Perhaps Paris’ life is so out of control that she needs this judge to slow down her descent so she can regain some semblance of a normal life. I hope she can manage to do it. While I deplore the media frenzy, I applaud the judge for trying.

but....my wife(42), oldest daughter(18), mom(75) all think she is being singled out for being rich, bratty and pretty to some...what region are all you gals on this thread from? First of all, it isn't just "gals" who were applauding Hilton's return to custody. Every radio host on my local conservative radio station (all men) were applauding -- more gleefully than anything I've seen here. My husband, like you, prefers voluptuous, sexy Italian brunettes. Since I happen to be one of those and I only care what my husband thinks, I don't envy Hilton's looks in the slightest. Where am I "from"? Not sure what that has to do with the subject, but here goes: I was born in Maine and spent most of my life in the Southeast -- Florida, Alabama and Virginia. I attended college in Los Angeles. Incidentally, USC is probably the official headquarters of spoiled, rich, blondes. It is referred to as the "University of Spoiled Children." Believe me, if I had a problem with people like Hilton, I sure as heck wouldn't have attended USC. After graduation, I moved to Seattle and lived there until we moved to the Midwest 3 years ago.

Hilton isn't being singled out for being rich or pretty. If by "bratty" you mean showing contempt for the law, then, yes, she is being singled out for being "bratty".

"Hilton has not done near enough mouthing off like Rosie to invite my visceral disgust." OK, but, as the father of daughters, who do you think is more harmful to young girls? I don't know a single little girl that admires or emulates Rosie O'Donnell. I know plenty, including my nieces, who idolize Hilton and vapid bimbos like her. I am greatly concerned about the shallow, materialistic, slutty, self-destructive and vapid trends that are popular with young women these days and I am, honestly, thankful that I only have sons.

it's just a point of view....the older I get, the less I have figured out

if you are concerned about her well being then maybe you would be for court ordered psychiatric help rather than jail

Bull hockey.

Maybe, just maybe, some of us see past whether a person has money or not and judges the person by their actions.

Let’s see. Paris Hilton.

1. Slut city.

2. Thinks she is better than the “little people” because she has money.

3. Thinks the law does not apply to her.

4. Snotty all the way.

Plenty to hate there and nothing to do with her having money. It’s people like you that are all concerned about class warfare and money. Most of us don’t care.

My opinion? You are a pot trying to call a piece of china “black”.

I don’t look to Hilton as a role model for anyone.

I see Hilton must have picked up on your women soldiers in Iraq pontifications.

It seems she too now laments that she gets more attention than they do.

Uncanny eh? You and Paris sorta converging in thought.

I fail to grasp that has to do with the fairness of her sentencing ...again.

I understand you loathe her and probably somehwere underneath all that contempt is pity too...

I didn’t read his posts but here is one man who is turned off by Paris’s looks, turned on by my lovely wife, not envious of her money, and gleeful she is finding out she is not above the law.

I thought it was outrageous that Mary got such a light sentence. She shot him in the back.

One gets the sense you have a deep appreciation for, and a well developed empathy with, lawbreakers and prison inmates.

Wanna share how that came about?

"I fail to grasp that has to do with the fairness of her sentencing ...again." It has nothing to do with her penalty. You asked why I had contempt for her and I'm telling you why. I think it is important for those who idolize her, however, to see that driving drunk is not glamorous and that glamorous people are not above the law. In that sense, I think it was a good thing to see her punishment enforced. Again, you keep wanting to frame this as an unfair sentence, when that is not what people were celebrating. What people are applauding is that the penalty was enforced. You didn't see a media circus of people cheering the day she was sentenced. Frankly, I didn't even know what it was at the time. But the point is, that wasn't what garnered the attention of the public. It was the prospect of her getting off without completing her sentence that angered people. And that is why you see them so gleeful now.

To: Star Traveler; All

Star Traveler arrives at the crux of the matter and why so many posters and readers are so interested in this story. Everybody’s got a secret. Actually more than one secret. Secrets. Not many know of these secrets, or “skeletons in the closet.” Families hide these skeleton secrets, don’t discuss them, ignore them. . . to their Eternal peril.

Most people in their day to day existence wear a mask (or masks). They put on a show, act a part, dance up a storm if need be, and are exhausted by the effort (as anyone acting would in real life).

The neat thing is that God doesn’t want you to be wearing such a mask. He already knows everyone’s heart anyway! Simply admit to God you are wearing such a mask, and ask Him to forgive you for doing life your way and not the way God intended (God is not a killjoy: God is not about taking away your “fun” just for the sake of powertripping). By living one’s life in the manner of “Love God and do as you please” - because lovers of God will want to do the Will of God - is very freeing (as I and many I know have found out).

Yup, there’s hope for us all. . . even for the one who is the topic of this post (I understand family members are reading this thread and have already commented; this statement is especially meant for them all).

The God I know revealed in the Bible is the God of Second Chances. . . even third chances. Food for thought for Freepers, readers and friends reading along.

Kindest Regards,
AV Native

the promiscuity has nothing to do with this unless it's while driving

It speaks volumes about her character, or rather, lack of it.

all think she is being singled out for being rich, bratty and pretty to some..

If it was Rosie that fulfilled NONE of her probation requirements and even knowingly violated them, would they claim she's being singled out for being a lesbian? Would you be defending Rosie?

Driving on a Suspended License in California

Vehicle Code § 14601 makes it a misdemeanor to drive with a suspended license in California. This includes out-of-state drivers whose privilege to drive in California has been revoked. To establish this offense, the prosecution must prove three elements:

1. The person drove a motor vehicle;
2. The person’s driving privilege was suspended or revoked; and
3. The person knew his/her driving privilege had been suspended or revoked

The key element for the legal defense of driving on suspended license cases is the “knowledge requirement.” The prosecution must prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the driver knew his license was suspended. (remember that for her first DOSL she signed a statement saying she was told NOT to drive) The prosecutor usually relies on DMV records to show that a notice of suspension had been mailed to the driver prior to the date of arrest. But given the tendency of mail to get lost or overlooked, jurors rarely find this evidence sufficient to meet the prosecutor’s heavy burden in a criminal case. Penalties for Driving With a Suspended License in California

Driving on a suspended license is a misdemeanor offense and punishment may include probation, jail time and substantial fines. Penalties in a given case depend on (1) the reason the license was suspended and (2) whether the defendant suffered prior convictions for driving with a suspended license. Generally, penalties are higher if the license was suspended or revoked because of a DUI conviction, a vehicular manslaughter conviction, or a finding that the driver is a habitual traffic offender.

Driving When Privilege Suspended or Revoked 14601. (a) No person shall drive a motor vehicle at any time when that person’s driving privilege is suspended or revoked for reckless driving in violation of Section 23103 or 23104, any reason listed in subdivision (a) or (c) of Section 12806 authorizing the department to refuse to issue a license, negligent or incompetent operation of a motor vehicle as prescribed in subdivision (e) of Section 12809, or negligent operation as prescribed in Section 12810.5 , if the person so driving has knowledge of the suspension or revocation. Knowledge shall be conclusively presumed if mailed notice has been given by the department to the person pursuant to Section 13106. The presumption established by this subdivision is a presumption affecting the burden of proof.

(b) Any person convicted under this section shall be punished as follows:

(1) Upon a first conviction, by imprisonment in a county jail for not less than five days or more than six months and by a fine of not less than three hundred dollars ($300) or more than one thousand dollars ($1,000).

what region are all you gals on this thread from?

I live in liberal land and just got back from Shoprite. Hubby started a conversation at the checkout with a lot of under 30 girls (4 or 5 of them). Everyone said Paris deserved her sentence. Everyone.

Ok, fine. So why are so many illegal beaners running loose and wild and killing Americans every day? Admit it, you are so jealous of this little bimbo, you can’t stand yourself. How pathetic. Ever hear the phrase: Equal protection under the law? Do you understand its meaning? I think not. If we let illegal beaners run loose for EXACTLY THE SAME CRIMES, why can we pick on an idiot blonde that happens to be from a rich family? Treat them all the same or not at all. Just because she’s rich and famous, she should be treated differently from the politically protected illegals? Think this through and you have to conclude its nothing more than petty jealously that is driving your opinion.

Oh my. Are you rational at all?

From what perspective do you come, that you believe jealousy is the issue here, and how do you presume to know that about me? You cannot build an argument on presumptions.

For the record, I have no need to be jealous of Ms. Hilton or any other person of means. In fact, my reaction toward others who have had success, has always been, "Good for you!"

Regarding the illegals, which you have inexplicably brought into this, they should receive equal justice to Paris Hilton or anyone else. As it is, they receive next to none. The hard truth is, they should all be deported and get in line with law abiding people seeking to immigrate here. They are illegal and are therefore criminals already.

If we apply the full measure of the law to even the most elite (if your definition of elite is wealth) legal citizens in our society, then why not apply it as well to those who have already proved themselves to be lawbreakers? Yes, equal protection and application of the law. Your attempt to make the least common denominator of justice into the appropriate standard of justice is false logic.

Your entire position on this thread appears as an emotional rather than rational response, and is somehow all wrapped up in this jealousy of wealth issue, which is uniquely your issue, not mine.

So, one more time, it is Paris' response to her station in life that has put her in her current situation. Her actions have repeatedly shown her disdain for the law and her belief that she is above it. The judge is demonstrating to Paris that she has miscalculated, and as with criminals in all income strata, I am happy to see it. It is what she needs.

You didn't see a media circus of people cheering the day she was sentenced

Are you kidding me?

The torch and pitchfork brigade here was all worked up. There were 16 threads here between her sentencing and subsequent temporary release. 17 threads since her reincarceration.

You and the other lady on this thread I've been arguing with are not the first folks I've seen here gloat over crime and punishment. Sometimes it's merited. Like the goblins in Knoxville. I hope they fry.

I do not share your view on Hilton knowing that is the minority viewpoint here. Being popular on FR is not why I post.

I do wonder though why ya'll feel compelled to personally disparage the motives and character of folks you disagree with over this. One is seduced by her looks. One is not really conservative. One approves of promiscuity, etc. when the argument is over whether her sentencing was customary or not in LA county. Plain and simple. The statistics will prove that ..yes or no and all the pundits I've seen say she got hammered.

We had a group here up until recently who tried to run threads, attack personally folks they disagreed with but such stuff finally caught up with them and they took their toys and left either voluntarily or not and folks like me who had been exiled after crossing swords with them one too many times over borders usually were invited or allowed back (both really) because some good folks stuck their neck out for us.

Since then, I have tried not get all nasty. I can. Believe me...I know how the game is played here. But I'm not going to. I will not shame the folks that got me back on this forum

I don't understand your vitriol at Hilton but that's fine ..have at it. It's a matter pf personal perspective I guess. I'm not going to fight with you. Folks can disagree here without personal condemnation.

Nite
