The Baathists are mostly secular and educated. They will almost certainly be better allies then the uneducated religious Shia masses.

(I don't worry about the war turning into "Vietnam" in Iraq; I worry about it doing so in Congress.)

oh yeah.....they want no part of the strict Al Qaeda code or laws.....though I have little sympathy for them either.. but kill off one first....then work on the others....
To: Perdogg
More to the point the Iranian leadership along with al-Qaeda stands to lose the most over this.

I’d keep an eye on the ex-Republican Guards, though. They’re indoctrinated ideologs who’ll garrot you the moment you turn your back.

Heard some general talk about this. I thought ‘it’s about time they tried a ‘bottom up’ approach. The top tier sucks.

It is very hard to hide this great success and the most important turning point in the war since the fall of Saddam regime. Even the liberal media cannot hide it.

The whole place is a dogs-breakfast of allegiances....but there is no harm in pitting the relative good guys against the demonstratively bad guys!!
