Hmm. It looks to me as if the ITC is actually doing the right job. That a large number of cell phone firms and their customers are benefitting from what has been determined to be patent infringement is PRECISELY all the more reason for the ITC to act. The fact of such a large number of people buying these phnes demonstrates the injury to the plaintiff. Were I the patent holder I’d be happy that the government isn’t selling me down the river just because doing so might be popular.
The Wall Street Journal is saying that it is okay to import products that violate patents as long as it is done by a US company. Why?
Patents are government-enforced theft. They should not exist.
another win for china
either our mfg’s make their phones in china and import them here, or we import chinese phones, or don;t have any.
Does anyone know who is manufacturing these chips? The company I work for does a lot of chip production for Qualcomm right here in the USA.
Patents are granted to guarantee exclusivity for a 20 year period. Without these protections a company would not invest tons of cash designing and developing anything. My company for instance spent 8 million dollars to develop a product that can be mass produced very cheaply. We have to recoup the investment. If another company buys a copy of my product and copies it, they can then make and sell it for less than me, because they haven’t spent the 8 million bucks that needs to be earned back. Without these protections there is no incentive to invent. Patents are a double edged sword. They give protection but at the same time the entire process for making the device must be fully explained and detailed in a document that is readily available for anyone to read.
I have not used a cell phone for years. I had one once and then realized I did not need it.
Now however I am thinking of getting one with all the bells and whistles...text messaging, video, email, international phone service, memory etc.
Any ideas? Or could you tell me where to post my query?
