Ignored? Maybe in the pre sixties but there has been several movies and (real) documentaries on the service and hardships black soldiers endured during that period.

Do we have to breakdown by ethnicity/ subculture the contributions of everyone who fought and died for this country.
I though the only important identication needed was Americans

Not that I’m proposing it but how about German Americans, Italiann Americanswho fought against their own people (Japanese Americans hve been noted before)

Unless they did something truly out of the ordinary (like the Indian code talkers or the sinsei(Japanese Americans unit that won the the highest per capita battle ribbons/awards of the war, what is the purpose?

And after watching several of Spike Lee’s films and “documentary” on Katrina, I strongly suspect he would slant it as Americans as no better than the Nazis.

On the contrary, you must remember. these black troops fought for their country even though many of them could not vote, as well as other injustices. if anyone did anything extraordinary it was these brave men who, when they came home, still had to ride on the back of the bus, still could not vote, and still were not represented in the justice system fairly. just google pictures of black swinging from trees. So, it was extraordinary for them to fight for their country despite these injustices. perhaps it is important for many young blacks to see their great grandfathers, grandfathers and fathers in a positive patriotic roll rather then the pimps and drug dealers they are potrayed to be and some aspire to be because that is the only thing they know. maybe, many would want to represent their race in a patriotic way if they had the historic examples of their brave forefathers. such as the Tuskegee airmen, buffalo soldriers, 761 tanks, triple nickle, etc. not to many know about these units. that is why many, such as yourself, perhaps unknowing question why should any one ethnicity be represented in a movie. European americans have movies such as brave-heart, john wayne movies, etc. The movie about the code talkers was a joke. it focused on the white actor and not the Navajo Indians that it was suppose to address.
