China is actually losing a lot of manufacturing as well. The culprit is likely productivity and automation. We’re heading towards an automized economy.

I like Hunter and respect many of his views, but I think most politicians aren’t economists. We in America have a savings problem, and our energy/medical fields are hampering our economic well-being. That along with a revamp of our tax system, and we’ll be as good as new.

Oh, and we have to work on our immigration policy. The next president will have many challenges.

“Further, the rate of decline in U.S. manufacturing employment is no greater than the worldwide average: 11 percent between 1995 and 2002. In the same period, China, which has been frequently criticized for “stealing” American manufacturing jobs, lost 15 million manufacturing jobs of its own (about 15% of its total), compared with 2 million lost in the U.S”

Politicians are addicted to deficit spending and they need China to buy T-Bills to fund it. The trade deficit sends money to China so they can turn around and buy those T-Bills with it. That's why you'll never see politicians do anything about the trade deficit.

Not sure of that statement. Not quite sure any of the candiates will do the right thing or most appropriate thing for economic viability.

There’s a lot of things that need to be worked on [look at my former post]. It’s a complicated future and it’s all a bet, personally. Although I would take a second to vote for Hunter in the generals (if he had that chance).

I recently had to make a purchase, not insignificant, made in China readily available, I chose to wait, got made in USA, at twice the price.

I hope you’re able to hang on, because I believe the pendulum is going to swing back, for a number of reasons.

Keep at it. In our business we are finding our old suppliers have started to outsource to China. What once were quality products have become plain junk. We look for US manufactured goods.

The chineeeee don't give a rat's rosy rear end about losing manufacturing jobs. We do, but they don't. it's actually cheaper to run an automated factory and not have to pay slaves, uh, workers. Less money for wages, more money for missiles. It keeps the emergence of the middle class from happening, as well, which I'm sure they want because I keep hearing that the more middle-income earners China has, the less dangerous the government becomes, or some happy horseshit like that.

Hunter should make a very big deal about this by relating the deficit growth to the parallel increase in China’s military build-up IMHO. The China threat is real, it is not perceived. Voters can relate to this well.

He has been making those points, every chance he gets.

DUNCAN HUNTER: "Well, whichever side of this debate one is on, everyone here has to concede American dollars are arming Communist China today. Let us look at what they have done with the $350 billion that they have amassed in trade surplus over the last 8 years. The Sovrenny class missile destroyers, straight from the Russians, designed for one purpose, to kill American aircraft carriers, were purchased with American trade dollars. The SU-27 fighter aircraft, high performance aircraft, capable of effective warfare against America's top line fighters, were purchased with American trade dollars. On top of that, kilo class submarines, AWACS aircraft, air-to-air refueling capability, sophisticated communications equipment, all purchased with American trade dollars, and compounding the danger, China's own sales to nations like Iraq, Iran, Libya, Syria and North Korea of components for weapons of mass destruction.

"We're down to one-sies and two-sies on critical aspects of the defense industrial base. This is a security problem! I have two reasons for wanting to maintain a strong industrial base in this country. Number one, good high-paying jobs for our people and good profits for our businesses so they can continue to make capital investment and, secondly, national security. It could get to the point where it is primarily a national security problem." (On China.)

"We seem to be our own worst enemies. We should require critical U.S. infrastructure to remain in U.S. hands." (On critical national defense industries moving overseas.)

"Evidence of a transfer of ballistic missile technology to China during President Clinton's Administration, by one of the President's major campaign contributors, itself justifies inquiry into possible grounds for impeachment of the President."

"COSCO has a very long and troubling record of shipping both weapons and components of mass destruction around the world," said Rep. Hunter. "For all practical purposes, COSCO is the merchant marine of the Chinese military. As a result, they carry the cargo of the Chinese military upon command and without question. We do not need to increase their access to American soil."

Go to sears.com and search for ‘floor jack’ for cars. Then read the reviews. They are “Craftsman” and almost all get 1 star out of 5. When they break after one or two uses, Sears just keeps replacing them until the warranty runs out. They carry no parts and can’t fix them. The customer gets hosed. Does Sears care? They probably buy this crap for a nickel and sell it for $100. Why pay $100 for throwaway crap when you can get the same crap at Home Depot for $19?

Those priorities are backwards. Without the former, you cannot ensure the ability of the prior. Just my opinion of course.

Samples from Sears. You know these babies are not made in the US. One guy called them “Chinacraft.” This jack was $130, on sale only $100. Such a deal. It’s not just this model. I think there’s only one they sell that sort of works.

“jack lifted fine.then released by itself....dangerous....”

“This is the second one of these jacks that I have from Sears. It is a defective replacement for the first defective one. Both have the same problem. After a few uses, the jack will not lift anything...including me! I am not a mechanic, although I do tie up a tail pipe or change a tire occassionally. I followed the instructions for non-lifting jacks, and it still won’t lift. Since it is used occassionally, the warrantee expired before the problem reared its ugly head. Great boat anchor.”

“I bought this jack a little less then a year ago and it has worked very well. I sure hope I don’t have the problems other people have but it works really well right now!!”

“hate to repeat what everyone else says, but its true. my jack only lasted about a year and 3 months. just out of warranty. stopped working for no reason. when i contacted sears they told me to bring my reciept and they could give me a better deal on a new jack! ha ha
like i will ever buy a craftman jack again. bottom line is i thought i was getting top off the line and i got garbage.”

“I purchased the jack and it only lasted just beyond the warrany and then it quit working. Do not by this jack.”

“Used to be buying craftsman meant quality. Now it seems it means junk. I don’t use this jack a whole lot, I’ve only had it for two years and it has no lifting power. Checked the fluid level and thats fine. I can’t find anything online about fixing the problem, only that it is junk.”

“I own this jack. It stopped working about a year after I got it. No lifting power, even though it’s filled with oil. It’s simply a defective product that lasted only until it was out of warranty. DO NOT BUY THIS JACK. You’re wasting your money. If you want one that bad, drop by my house and I’ll give you mine. The only reason it’s still in my garage is because I haven’t figured out how to get rid of it yet.”

“I have owned 2 of these jacks. The first one stopped working right away. I brought it back for exchange. I thought I might be unlucky and have gotten a defective one. Now the second one has stopped working only after a few times of use. This jack is a total waste of money.”
“Owned it for less than a year before it quit lifting. Tried adding fluid but it was already full. No leaks, just wont lift. Save your money for something that is better built. Poor u-joint and the handle wont stay up while storing it. Waste of money.”

“They should have someone test it first. You should have the option to have the handle stay all the way up, not at an angle. My springs don’t even hold the handle in the uprite position. And the saddle should be larger “ It’s a four ton jack”.”

“Owned it for less than a year before it quit lifting. Tried adding fluid but it was already full. No leaks, just wont lift. Save your money for something that is better built. Poor u-joint and the handle wont stay up while storing it. Waste of money.”

“A good solid service jack but the version I bought has welded studs which prevents the handle from staying up. This may be a design change to prevent damage noted in the previous review. I maintain too many vehicles and don’t want to waste time taking the handle out of the jack to store it or removing it when in use so it doesn’t fall on an ajoining car or create a trip hazard. Does anyone test these products before releasing?”
