Pathetic. It is already illegal for anyone to hire an illegal. There is no need for any more laws making this illegal. The current laws just need to be enforced!

Are you objecting to the author of the article? If so, it seems strange, because you are both making the same argument: Make no new anti-illegal-immigrant laws, just enforce the existing ones, most especially the ones against employers who cheat.

I hear Senator Kyl of Arizona explain this. If I remember right, he said it is impossible to enforce this because it is illegal to hire illegal aliens, but it is illegal for emplyers to check to see if their papers are false or not. A true catch 22. I am not against immigration reform, but I am so cynical of government, that what ever law they pass, will never be enforced. The whole issue will never change.

"It is already illegal for anyone to hire an illegal." True. But honest employers are caught between conflicting federal laws/regulations. the federal government has thrown the onus of responsibility on the employer to verify the status of an alien seeking employment. At the same time, federal law/regulations forbid questioning an applicant about his immigration status. The employer is left to do all the legwork to determine if an SSN is authentic. So what employer would ever hire anyone he suspects is an illegal? Oh, if he doesn't, he is open to a discrimination lawsuit. Sheesh!
