Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has drawn guffaws from the pro-life community for comments saying that embryonic stem cell research, which involves the destruction of days-old human embryos, is a "gift from God." Her remarks came after the House approved a bill to force Americans to fund it.
"Science is a gift of God to all of us, and science has taken us to a place that is biblical in its power to cure... And that is embryonic stem cell research," Pelosi said.
Her comments produced an immediate reaction from pro-life groups, including Tony Perkins the head of the Family Research Council
"Pelosi must not have learned from Rudy Giuliani's experience during the GOP debate when the building was struck by lightening as he sought to justify abortion," he said.
"Of course, it's complete nonsense to suggest that God wants us to destroy human embryos, since they are His own creation," Perkins added. "This is just the latest example of the Left's aggressive efforts to lure the unsuspecting into supporting immoral and unethical policies which are whitewashed with spiritual words and phrases."
Marjorie Dannenfelser, the president of the Susan B. Anthony list said that pro-life female lawmakers did more to represent women during the bioethics votes last week than Pelosi.
"Thankfully, several pro-life women did stand up to vote no on spending your taxpayer dollars on research that destroys human life," she told LifeNews.com.
"These female members of Congress are true heroines -- unlike so many others, they have not bought into the distortions of compassion perpetuated by corporate science," she added.
Dannenfelser said the pro-life women who voted against human cloning and embryonic stem cell research included Michele Bachmann (R-MN), Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), Barbara Cubin (R-WY), Jo Ann Davis (R-VA), Thelma Drake (R-VA), Mary Fallin (R-OK), Virginia Foxx (R-NC), Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA), Candice Miller (R-MI), Marilyn Musgrave (R-CO), Sue Myrick (R-NC), Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL), and Jean Schmidt (R-OH).
"Put simply, these Congresswomen recognize that embryos are humans who deserve life and respect. Regardless of their size or level of development, the tiniest humans do not deserve to be treated as products," Dannenfelser concluded.

“Science is a gift from God”
Federal funding is a gift from we taxpayers....

Shrieker Pelosi needs to be thinking about the Scripture that states “woe unto those who call good evil, and evil good” (paraphrased).
God will not be mocked.
She’ll learn the hard way, I predict.
Has she changed the title “Speaker of the House” to Madame Commissar yet?
“While there is no proof that Baal God will cure me, he MIGHT cure me. Therefore, let us sacrifice our babies to be burned alive, er, ripped to shreds so we might have hope.”
Nancy Pelosi IS Evil.
I’d like to be a fly on the wall when she has to say that to Him.
I prayed God to make our enemies ridiculous and, praise Him, He granted my prayer.
Nancy, you don’t even believe in a god, you’re not fooling anyone but yourself.
Words of God from a Godless bitch.
Hey that is NOT funny, I know many good reptiles. They do not advocate killing their young to save/prolong their own lives
She is as Catholic as john kerry or edward kennedy. It’s obviously as important to her as the model of car that she drives.
Seems to me Pelosi forgot or ignored the new results of cord blood stem cells and stem cells created with skin that are looking very promising...of course cord blood and skin cells are much easier to obtain and work with.
How does this theological statement mesh with her stated affiliation with the Roman Catholic Church?
Uh, don’t bother, I know, I know.
I assume we can count on the ACLU to denounce Pelosi’s statements as violative of the “wall of separation between church and state.” /sarcasm. Pelosi has no right to invoke the name of God for any purpose, and certainly not for the ungodly purpose of embryonic stem cell abuse.
Allllrigghhhht. A man after my own heart.
