With Taliban activities in Afghanistan witnessing a rise, India is sending Indo-Tibetan Border Police commandos to beef up security of its personnel engaged in reconstruction work there.

At least 134 highly trained commandos will be dispatched in two batches beginning this month for protection of Border Roads Organisation personnel constructing a crucial highway in Afghanistan, sources told PTI in New Delhi on Sunday.

Seventy five commandos will be sent in the first batch in about a fortnight in view of the urgent security requirement cited by BRO, the sources said.

Formalities for sending them, including arrangement of travel documents, are underway, they said. Fifty-nine more commandos will be sent early next month, they said adding, they are at present being given training for the specific task.

I wonder if this is also a message to Iran.

Iran has declared a HOLY WAR on India...

Afghanistan borders Iran, and these are Border Security Experts

Closer ties with India is probably one of the most important Bush accomplishments that gets no mention from anyone.

It is presently quite significant and will over the next decade prove to be a decisive counterbalance in a myriad of America geopolitical problems such as WOT and Chinese aggression.

Ultra sharp uniforms in that photo. At last some long over due payback for all the Islamic terrorism in northern India.

Awesome! The Tibetans were originally survivors of the CIA guerilla army. Perhaps the toughest natural soldiers in history, they and their Uigher neighbors terrorized the Chinese for millenia. Afghanistan would be the perfect environment for them. I will follow reports of how they do.

Thanks for the post.

Did anyone see the original announcement of troops dispatched to Afghanistan?

Or is this one of those announcements forced on the ministry because the secret is out?

No matter. This is good news. India takes its rightful place on the regional stage, standing up for security, peace, and freedom.

The world is moving towards democracy and away from tyranny.

If true Russia will be in a bind. The closer India is to the US, relations between China and India gets worst. Russia can not sell weapons to both sides before problems arise. Russians could not sell the Russian engines for one of China’s export fighters that may end up in Pakistan, because India threaten to cancel one of the major arms contract with Russia. Sooner or later Russia will have to choose between China or India as arms customer. India will do the same to the US as she cultivate stronger ties with US. Down the road she will demand the US to choose between India or Pakistan.

"The Tibetans were originally survivors of the CIA guerilla army. Perhaps the toughest natural soldiers in history, they and their Uigher neighbors terrorized the Chinese for millenia."

At one time a Tibetan army invaded China and even reached the gates of Peking, according to Harrer in Seven Years in Tibet.
